They really need to hear from folks like us on this matter...

Toys and Infant Formula?? Not a wise business decision....

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY:

Fisher Price is currently running a " Ready-Set-Grow " Sweepstakes on its US

website. Every prize package includes a six-week supply of EnfamilR formula

(mother's choice) delivered directly to each winner's home.

Let Fisher Price know that this is unconscionable! Send your emails of

complaint to http://www.service.mattel.com/us/feedback/feedback.asp. Please

respond as quickly as possible - the contest closes May 17th, 2004.

Step 1 - choose complaint

Step 2 - Choose about " other " and then subject " promotion "

To view the Sweepstakes website, go to

http://www.fisher-price.com/us/ref/l.asp

Direct your letters to:

Neil Friedman, President

Laurie Oravec, Director of Public Relations

Sample letter follows:

I am writing in regard to your Ready-Set-Grow Sweepstakes that includes a

six-week supply of EnfamilR formula (mother's choice) in the prize packages.

This is a direct violation of the World Health Organization's International

Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and jeopardizes the health of

the infants that your company supposedly cares so much about. Furthermore,

the donation of free formula to pregnant women and new mothers subverts the

World Health Organization's Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child

Feeding that recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of

life as a global public health standard.

Please understand that this is not an issue of consumer choice, but rather a

serious health concern. Formula-fed babies are at increased risk of

childhood cancer, asthma, ear and respiratory infections, allergies,

diabetes and gastrointestinal infections. Formula feed babies also score

lower on intelligence and vocabulary tests than their breastfed

counterparts. As formula-fed babies grow into adults, they are at greater

risk for cardiovascular disease and obesity. On a global scale, the

decision to breastfeed is a matter of life or death. The World Health

Organization estimates that 1.5 million children die every year because they

are not breastfed.

In order to safeguard the health of your youngest and most vulnerable

customers, please remove the free formula from this promotion and refrain

from offering such a prize in the future.
