Guest guest
Just seeing if anyone on this board (I lurk) has any ideas on this. I'm 36 weeks pregnant, and I've got a cold and some sores, scratches and bruises that simply aren't healing up for the last month. I'm taking my usual supplements (USANA AO & Minerals), a CoQ10, 3000- 4000mg of Vitamin C, 3-6 evening primrose oils, 1.5 TBSP of Hempseed oil, and every couple of days Salmon Oil. I eat very well. Any suggestions/ideas/thoughts?

As for evening primrose... There are no safe, confirmed dosages for pregnancies and some sources even indicate that it may be contraindicated in pregnancy. Why are you taking so much GLA may I ask? It should be the reverse. Also you may be seeing an increase in your glucose levels. High blood sugar is usually an indication of poor healing. I would advise eating more fresh organic fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. As has been stated earlier, processed food and highly refined oils are extremely highin omega-6. If you eat any meat at all this would just add to your problems as animal protein contains AA (arachadonic acid) which is also an omega -6. Then theres the Dairy as well which everyone recommends for moms to be. That is high in n- 6s as well. Whenever n-6s become more prevalent than n-3s, this may cause an imbalance of hormones which may be quite troublesome, even when one is not pregnant. However, I don't need to tell you how important hormones are in pregnancy. :-) The body uses Omega-3s and Omega-6s to produce several types of important substances such as prostaglandins, eicosanoids, and leukotrienes. These substances have a number of effects on the brain and body. They can act as hormones, are involved in the immune system, blood-pressure control, clotting, heart rhythm, and they even influence tumor inhibition or formation. Thus, the types of fatty acids in the diet is known to *nfluence* the release of hormones by the pituitary gland. This is one reason I recommend only Udos oils. He has a balance of all three essential fatty acids. www.udoerasmus.com Regards, JoAnn
Guest guest
> Any suggestions/ideas/thoughts? Hi, I'm a lurker too. I do have ideas, but I caution you that I don't know the contraindications for pregnant women and/or their babies. I used to get very bad bruising and often looked like I was beaten after I woke up. My naturopath recommended Vitamin K. I would have also recommended the Vitamin C, but I see you are taking that already. I have a friend with MS who takes up to 10,000 mgs. All the best and congratulations on your baby, Star
Guest guest
Could you have a zinc deficiency? I understand it's good for fighting colds & wound healing. I don't know if supplementation is safe in pregnancy. Try foods high in zinc (pecans?). You'll need to investigate. --- In , " hernystiricgnosis " <bmcdonne@t...> wrote: > Just seeing if anyone on this board (I lurk) has any ideas on this. > > I'm 36 weeks pregnant, and I've got a cold and some sores, scratches > and bruises that simply aren't healing up for the last month. > > I'm taking my usual supplements (USANA AO & Minerals), a CoQ10, 3000- > 4000mg of Vitamin C, 3-6 evening primrose oils, 1.5 TBSP of Hempseed > oil, and every couple of days Salmon Oil.
