JoAnn,

Do you have any recommendations for Vertigo, it's causes and cures? I have a

friend that suddenly developed it and was told they know very little about

it and nothing can be done.

I believe I have something on this. First of all could you tell me

if your friend is male or female...

as these symptoms are frequently associated with menopause.

Harry,

There may be any number of underlying reasons for vertigo ,

although Balch claims that it typically is linked to inner ear

function which controls balance with something called

'otoliths' (calcium carbonate crystals)

that shift in response to head movements and bends 'fiber cells'

that send signals to our brain.

The brain uses these signals to calculate the positioning of the

head and control equilibrium/balance.

He claims that as we age, debris accumulates in the inner ear

pressing against these hair cells, resulting in false signals being

sent to the brain which interferes with our balance resulting in

vertigo.

He advises that anytime these spells occur we should attempt to sit

and to focus at a fixed object until they start to subside.

There are any number of supplements which should be taken as well,

mainly all of the B-vitamin complex, vitamin E, Coq10,

Vitamin A, Zinc, C up to 10,000 mg daily in divided doses, magnesium

750 mgs daily altogether,

Kelp, Brewers Yeast,a good multivitamin and mineral

complex,melatonin and DMG.

Herbs he recommends are Dandelion, Grated ginger root,Gingko and

any others that tend to improve circulation.

He advises limiting sodium intake to no more than 2,000 mgs per day.

He claims too much sodium interrupts the 'workings' of the inner ear.

He recomends avoiding alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, eliminating ALL

fried foods as well!

If beginning to experience vertigo after taking medication,

Balch says to assume that the problem is " drug related " .

Even vegetarians can benefit from taking a closer look at their

diet, ensuring that they avoid ALL GMO soy (most commonly found in

meat substitutes) and Dairy foods (including cheese) that are not

organic in nature.

Also its best to eat only organically grown fruits and veggies in

order to avoid unnecessary residues and exposure to irradiation

foods.Free radicals taken in from these residues can be problematic

especially when approaching menopause.

Growth hormones, antibiotics in non-organic dairy, butter,

margarines, mayo, salad dressings and eggs contains tons of

Xenoestrogens, not to

mention dioxins and other contaminants that tend to interfere with

our natural hormone balance.

For this many women use (mexican) wild yam based progesterone

creams which helps to correct estrogen to progesterone ratios

It's essential that we know our product and our supplier and above

all to observe our body's response.

Today most USP progesterone is, in fact, extracted from soy. Neither

USP nor human progesterone is present in either of the major plant

sources (soybean or wild yam).

Yams contain the sterol diosgenin, whereas soybeans contain the

sterol stigmasterol—both of which have progesterone-like effects.

Substances sold as USP progesterone is produced in the lab by

hydrolyzing extracts of soy or yam and converting saponins into

sapogenins, two of which, sarsasapogenin (soy) and diosgenin (yam)

provide the majority of derivation of natural progesterone produced

for medical purposes.

While diosgenin may have some progestogenic or even phytoestrogenic

action, the effect varies from one person to another.

If she discovers that this is menopausal related, I fervently

believe that black cohosh supplements are best for alleviating

symptoms. I have used quite a bit of non-gmo soy and other beans

with good results, although I find that fermented soy is the very

best for this.

Also while I'm on the subject I would like to mention that GLA

effectively reduces menopausal symptoms. GLA is found mainly in EPO,

black currant and borage oils.

Mexican Wild yam, given in combination with black cohosh, is not

only common in menopause formulas but is also an effective pain-

relieving remedy.

Vertigo may be linked to oxygen deficiency from poor circulation in

the

brain or leading up to the brain (very frequently caused by

narrowing of the arteries) or abnormalities in blood pressure

readings ( excessively high or low).

This may be one reason Balch recommends gingko. Gingko is wonderful

for circulation.

Rosemary is also good for improving brain function and oxygenation.

I believe that any of the herbs/supplements which aid circulation

and improve oxygen flow would help in alleviating her vertigo

symptoms.

Most of this was taken from

" Prescription for Nutritional Healing "

by Dr. James A. Balch &

Phyliss Balch
