I have a 4 year old son who has Bi-Polar. He is currently on

Adderal, AdderalXr and Serequal. I don't like him being on these

medicines, but he is very difficult to manage without them. He

becomes very hyper, and violent. Through actions and words. Does

anyone have any experience in this and give me some pointers on

alternative methods to medicine?

There is no easy answer for you. Ther are answers but they will

require some effort. I believe that you are either going to have to

educate yourself or go to a very good natural doctor. Either a

naturopath or an orthomolecular MD.

A lot of what your son may be acting out could be a direct result of

these drugs especially when they start to wear off. These are very

strong drugs for an adult let alone a child. They may make him

outwardly managable when the dose is high in his bloodstream, but you

need to learn what they do inside. You may have put your son in a

very serious position. (Seroquel is especially dangerous). Please be

careful and to go very slowly in any changes. I am very surprised

that they would put someone so young on these strong drugs.

It isn't just a matter of substituting some natural product for an

unnatural one. There are now two areas to consider. Being on these

drugs is a seperate problem in itself.

Coming off these drugs is a problem. You cannot just stop them cold

as it can cause great harm to the person. Once off you can expect a

lot of symptoms as these drugs cause major changes in the brain's

biochemistry. Adding another drug will not cure the problem but mask

it and further disrupt the biochemistry. It may take some time for

the brain to right itself with the needed nutritional supplements.

I think that you should start by reading our back articles. Input

into the search function on our home page to search our archives.

Search on these medications each and bipolar too. Read all of the

articles. We have many links on our links page also. Read the ones

about alternative mental health and the ones about drugs. Read the

PDR on all of these drugs especially the side effects. Use an online

dictonary to explain medical terms.

One of many that you should go to is Safe harbor Project

http://www.alternativementalhealth.com (I think that is correct) It

is also one of the links on our links page.

Go to our message boards and read all the articles under mental

health section. The address is on the bottom of all our messages from

this group.

Most mental health problems usually start out as either a nutritional

deficiency, a reaction to toxic exposure, or the result of some

invading organism.

With some research for self education and some time and effort most

mental health issues can be corrected.

You will need someone who is very knowledgable about getting someone

off these drugs without harm and someone to correct the situation

that caused the brain to be biochemically imbalanced. (and no, none

of the psychoactive drugs advertised to correct brain chemicals does

anything like correct anything, but usually make any imbalance worse.)
