Guest guest
Hello everyone, I posted this once but you may have missed it. If you're worried about a virus from the emails recieved about a warning concerning your email account, go to: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.beagle@mm. removal.tool.html and use the removal tool. I had the same email sent to my Highstream account, saying it was from Highstream and that too many viruses were coming from my sent mail and that my account may be suspended. There was an attachment, claiming to be a virus cleaner to clean up my software. Like an idiot, I opened the attachment and downloaded the zip file, thinking it was from my SP so it must be legit. Well, when it wouldn't open properly I called Highstream support and asked them if they had sent the email and they said NO. They already knew about it, and told me to go to the above link for a removal tool. The virus is called w32.beagle@mm and only affects computers who's calanders are set to before Jan. 28, 2004. If your calendar is current then it won't harm you. Otherwise it will infect your email account, send out emails from your address book and proliferate in that manner. I went to the link above and used it and all is well. When I asked the support guy what the virus would do to my PC he said, " Nothing, " unless of course my calander was set to prior than 1/28/04. It's pointless to try and track these emails through headers as they are no doubt forged. The best thing you can do is delete them, or if you downloaded the program like I did, use the tool provided by Symantec. It seems that a lot of different ISPs and servers are being affected, not just . Since the affect date is 1/28/04, it sounds like this is an old virus still making its rounds, but fortunately it has lost its power to infect to the point of harming your PC. Sure is causing a lot of hoopla though! But maybe that's why the old posts of 2000-2003 are being deleted? I'm no expert, just passing on what I know happened to me and what I was told by my ISP. Hope any of this helps. --KK96
