In January 2001, I noticed a lump in my left breast and had it removed. Three months ago, another lump appeared in the other breast and I had it removed, too. Both were benign cysts. As there is a high incidence of breast cancer in my family history, I'm worried that I may develop breast cancer some day. I am now on a low-fat diet. I am also including lots of fresh vegetables and fruits in my diet. What supplements should I take to reduce the risk of breast cancer? A: QUITE often, the B vitamins can be beneficial, particularly B1 and B6. Supplementing your diet with fish oil, in combination with evening primrose oil, can also be beneficial as the former has been found to suppress cancer in women in " high risk " groups. Evening primrose oil, on the other hand, will help to regulate hormone levels in the blood. I would also suggest an anti-free radical formula, combining vitamins A, C, E and minerals such as zinc and selenium in one tablet. These nutrients will help to neutralise excessive free radicals which are harmful to the body. A fresh herb like garlic has cancer-fighting agents and can also be taken in capsule form. These can be extremely beneficial in helping to reduce the incidence of certain types of breast lumps. Self-examination is vital for early detection of tumours in the breasts. However, it is important that if you experience breast lumps, you have them examined by your medical practitioner. © 2004 The New Straits Times. via ProQuest Information and Learning Company; Mail SpamGuard - Read only the mail you want.
