Guest guest
have you ever read 'Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type', it's not for everyone but it did help me sift foods out that caused my type 0- asthma to flare up~ http://www.dadamo.com/ in me and nature i trust, *Hempress Ahava Ha'meer* ---- Monday, February 09, 2004 3:57:44 PM Tired after drinking protein Hi, I have serious asthma and the constant struggle to breathe and rid myself of congestion has caused a tremendous weight loss. I need to gain 30 lbs. I'm not a big eater; that is, I eat small amounts which make me feel full. I have to drink a lot of water with each meal so as to help me swallow (a problem). Anyway, I don't eat meat or sweets, and breads only once or twice a week, so I'm not racking up a lot of calories with what's left to eat. After trying several weight-lifter formulas for weight gain, (no soy), I found one that will give me the largest amount of calories for even just a 1/2 serving (since the full serving is way too much liquid at one time for me). What puzzles me, however, I become very lethargic and sleepy after drinking the product. It makes me feel so over-stuffed, I have to actually kick-back for at least half an hour. This particular product is high protein and low fat. I've tried the high protein, high fat and feel the same, and they all taste terribly chauky and are way too sweet. Your opinions are appreciated. Guest guest
Merlynn, One reason for why you might feel lethargic and sleepy after a weight gain powder is because they're filled with processed carbs. They aren't good food at all, and that's reflected in the taste. So, make your own protein shake, it's easy to add up the calories. I add some protein powder to a drink I make, but it's only a small amount. Everything else is raw: My breakfast shake is a blender mix of 2 or 3 valencia oranges (peel removed) plus half a lemon (peel removed), a quarter of a fresh pineapple, 1 banana, 1 tablespoon flax oil, 1 tablespoon Carlson's cod liver oil, 1 tablespoon raw unpasteurized honey, 2 large raw organic eggs, a half scoop of vanilla protein powder. Plus some ground flax seeds for extra fiber to slow down digestion. Sometimes a teaspoon of glutamine and half a teaspoon of Vitamin C powder too. It makes a quart or 1 L of drink which I can then drink on my way to work. The enzymes from the fresh raw pineapple helps to predigest everything else. I haven't calculated how many calories are in this, but it's quite substantial, especially because of the fats. Once you start racking up the calories it's important to put that energy to good use and build muscle instead of storing fat, so it's a good idea to get into a gym and work with some free weights. Plus, you'll feel a lot better. A personal trainer is a must for the beginning stages to make sure you learn proper technique. Guest guest
Ground flax seeds go rancid easily, I put whole organic flax seeds in the blender and they get ground up easily. If you are taking glutamine or nutrasweet or MSG go to google and type in " excitotoxins, the taste that kills " . You'll want to do this right away or go to the library and get the book. D. Guest guest
I don't believe you meant to say glutamine. Yes, that's why I freshly grind the amount I need in a coffee grinder and add it to the drink and blend, it effectively makes it a nut milk. My blender doesn't chop up whole flax seeds very well. >If you are taking glutamine or nutrasweet or MSG >go to google and type in " excitotoxins, the taste that kills " . You'll >want to do this right away or go to the library and get the book. Thank you for the reference. I looked it up and read a number of reviews, so far nothing to change my mind about the benefits of L-glutamine supplementation for the gut. David E. Guest guest
Believe it or not I did, glutamine is a precursor for glutamate. I had to look it up in the book to be sure but check it out for your self: " Excitotoxins, The Taste That Kills " I like to lift weights and at the time I stumbled onto the book in my health food store I had just bought some glutamine to use as a supplement to help build muscle. It's an amazing book. It also tells how so many foods in the grocery store contain MSG but don't label it as such. They are allowed to use names like: spice or broth... I'm just telling you what the book said but I've also seen this in other articles. Guest guest
I don't know what to say to this. The info/references on the positive effects of L-glutamine on the many organs/systems of the body, especially the intestines, is rather overwhelming. Guest guest
I know what you mean. This year I found out soy is not good for you from Dr. Marcola, Whey protein and all milk is bad for you, that I have eaten every day for years, My root canal is toxic and needs to come out. Wheat is bad, MSG is hidden in tons of things, and the list goes on and on. Pretty soon I'm going to run out of things to eat. Again, I'm just telling you what I found in this book. amazing, huh? If you find out differently please let us know but for now I won't eat it. > I don't know what to say to this. Guest guest
Hi Merlynn, You are describing classical symptoms of a hiatal hernia. This can be corrected without surgery. Once your stomach is in its right position, all these and other symptoms will disappear.
