I realize this question is directed to Joan, but I felt the urge to comment in regards to orange juice. (maybe you know this already) Orange Juice (oranges) are very mucus forming in a person's system! Of all the fruits.. i would suggest avoiding any orange juice product period!! Many people are allergic to them also. It's rather profound, that all to often allopathic Drs...(or in general what you " hear " out there), will " prescribe " drinking orange juice (lots of liquid) when a person is sick with a cold...flu...etc. I am sure their thinkng is...your getting vit c, and in general, flushing out your system with liquids. This is all well and good.. (liguids..vit c)but if you are trying to flush mucus out of your system when you are sick , injesting orange juice/oranges are not the thing to consume. Guest guest
JoAnn, I always enjoy your articles. Please tell me the effect of pasteurization on fruit juices such as orange juice. It is my understanding that almost all OJ is now pasteurized. I know that heating removes many of the beneficial elements of a food, and that heating can even change a food, but what is left of OJ? When heated, is OJ then harmful to you or just not as beneficial as it could be? What other fruit juices do you know of that are routinely pasteurized? Thanks for any additional insight you can provide. Mike
Guest guest
Orange juice also contains sugar which instantly and significantly lowers your immune system. I'm also not sure if the amount or quality of vitamin C in it is even significant. When I'm sick I take up to 30 grams a day. In the book " Prescription for Natural Healing " Dr. Balsch says that the only citrus fruit that's good for you is lemons. I didn't know that oranges were mucus forming. Thank you for the info. What about grapefruits? Do you know if they're good for you? Thanks, D.
