Guest guest
http://www.mercola.com/2004/jan/7/wine_benefits.htm It is Not the Alcohol in Wine That is Beneficial Studies show that it is not the alcohol in red wine that is beneficial to your health. What are beneficial are the abundant quantities of polyphenolic compounds that are found even in red wine that has been dealcoholized. The study indicated that dealcoholized red wine, which contains polyphenolic compounds, is capable of decreasing atherosclerosis, as were red and white wines.. Researchers concluded that when consumed moderately, dealcoholized red wine may decrease atherosclerosis--the hardening of the walls of the arteries--which may interfere with blood flow. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition January, 2004 Dr. Mercola's Comment: It has been proven in numerous studies that drinking a moderate amount of red wine each day appears to be beneficial for heart disease and may extend lifespan. Wine contains abundant quantities of beneficial polyphenolic compounds, and as the study suggests these compounds are even present in wine that has had the alcohol removed. So it appears that non-alcoholic red wine may be a better choice than regular red wine. The concentration of phenolic compounds in red wine is several times greater than that in white wine, and red wine in particular is purported to have a beneficial effect on heart disease. But before you go out and stock your pantry with red wine there are some precautions that need to be taken. While drinking about one glass of red wine each day may yield some benefit, drinking two or more glasses (of wine or any alcoholic beverage) may offset the benefit and increase your risk of certain cancers. And people with a history of alcohol abuse or liver disease should not drink alcohol at all. Also, people with diabetes and hypertension should limit their intake of alcohol. If you are going to drink, however, it does make sense to choose red wine over other alcoholic beverages, and use a wine saver to ensure the wine doesn’t oxidize and go rancid. The Vacu Vin Wine Saver is an exceptional choice as it allows you to pump out the air inside the bottle prior to sealing, and it is very durable. But, again, be careful to not overdo it.
