(1) Governor Pataki Hides Forced Electroshock

 

New York State's Governor George E. Pataki

has allowed a 60 year old woman to have

180 forced electroshocks on a weekly basis.

 

The Governor's agency now seeks a court order to

give 52 more forced shocks over her objections.

 

Earlier this year Governor Pataki vetoed a bill about

the public's right to know about electroshock. It looks

like MindFreedom uncovered what Gov. Pataki is hiding.

 

MindFreedom has a campaign to help Governor Pataki

realize that the world knows about this torture. It takes

(2) Green Party of the US Considers a " Green Mind "

National Mental Health Reform Platform Plank

 

MindFreedom has worked closely with members

of the Green Party of the United States to shape

a proposed platform plank about moving toward a

mental health system that is voluntary with

empowering alternatives. (MindFreedom itself

is independent of any political party.)

 

State Green groups have until 31 Jan 2004 to provide

feedback. The platform may then be adopted nationally.

(3) What's New on the NAMI Watch Web Page?

 

MindFreedom sponsors a special web area to

monitor human rights violations promoted by

NAMI, a family group that gets a secret but large

amount of money from the psychiatric drug industry.

 

Currently, NAMI is pushing to have a US stamp adopted

to push their ideological spin that severe emotional and

mental problems are all simply " brain disorders. "

 

On NAMI Watch, you can now find a letter of concern by

MindFreedom to the US Post Office, plus how you can " do the

opposite " of the NAMI alert about the stamp. Act soon.

 

You are also invited to join a public e-mail list to discuss

reforming NAMI. It's called " FreeNAMI. "

 

You may also read a newspaper article and an alert about

the Freedom Center's campaign to resist forced outpatient

psychiatric drugging, and how a NAMI chapter in

Massachusetts is trying to squash that dissent.

Long time MindFreedom activist and psychiatric survivor

(7) Teen is Free, Wants to Thank You for Helping.

 

Alex Asch was 16 years old when his parents had

him scooped up from an activist training center and

placed in a bizarre highly-controlled psychiatric

center for more than a year.

Thirty-two-year-old Jonathan Harte is also free! He, too,

a Canadian psychiatric facility. He smuggled out his
