I have in fact already started to do so, but I need your help. Please read my enclosed Congressional Testimony, prepared at the invitation of Representative Dan Burton, who has an autistic grandson. " Autism Is Treatable " is the title of my testimony, and I mean it. I don't mean that we already know how to mainstream every autistic child. I mean that literally thousands of parents of formerly autistic children have contacted the Autism Research Institute to thank us for our help in bringing about their child's recovery. It is true, and I can and will prove it is true by inviting the media to meet the parents, the recovered children, and the advanced doctors who have made such a huge difference in the lives of these children. Why am I angry? Because the government, the medical establishment, the media and even the major million-dollar autism organizations insist that there is at present no effective biomedical treatment for autism. THEY ARE WRONG! Who are " They " ? Just the National Institutes of Health, the FDA, the Autism Society of America (which I founded!), the National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR), and the Cure Autism Now (CAN) Foundation, as well as Newsweek, The New York Times and The New Yorker, to name a few organizations which have recently said that autism is untreatable. Their negative attitude dooms the children to lives blighted by autism. Because of our success, our Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) project is growing at a spectacular rate. Doctors – and soon nurses – who attend our DAN! conferences are granted Continuing Medical Education Units from a highly respected medical school. Our formerly once-a-year major DAN! conferences are now given twice a year in major cities, and we present mini-DAN! conferences in smaller cities. The Autism Research Institute sponsors Think Tanks, where top-notch scientists and physicians can exchange ideas. We sponsor research projects that will help autistic children now, not decades from now. We plan to continue to help autistic individuals, their families, their doctors and research scientists. Early in 2004 we start our media campaign: " Autism Is Treatable! " with a press release inviting the media to see the recovered children, and to talk with their enthusiastic parents, their teachers, and their doctors. We will get the word out, telling the truth, and thus greatly improve the chances for recovery for autistic children. Parents and physicians are eagerly volunteering to help. Our Autism Is Treatable.com website will open soon. Your help in the past has made a big difference to us and to thousands of autistic children world-wide. (We do not apply for government funds because we value our freedom.) Please continue your help with a generous tax-deductible contribution. You can make a donation using Pay Pal or by mail or fax. Cordially, Bernard Rimland, Ph.D. Brmo P.S. Many of you are way ahead of us! Thank you, very much, for your year-end donation, if you have already sent one!
