feeding raw for dogs and cats

I use Kymythy Schultze's modified diet from her book " Natural Nutrition for

dogs and cats " but use 10 to 15% veggies and switch the flaxseed (too many

problems with at least 10% of the dogs on it and some problems with it going

rancid) I now use Artic Vigor (I am in Canada) If I were in the US I would

use pharmaceutical grade wild salmon oil, the other salmon oils are too low

in dose even the regular wild salmon oil. I also use less vit C than she

uses.

For switching dogs I often suggest using a fermented salad for a couple of

days with dogs in good health and the other sicker dogs to do it for a few

weeks (feeding their veggies as a fermented salad to help them transition)

Also no fasting for ill dogs till they are on it quite a long time and

stabilized.

The fermented pulped salad is made (mostly with leafy greens) adding

probiotics (human grade and non dairy) to establish the good bacteria in the

intestines. The human grade digestive enzymes are also added (need one with

cellulase and amylase at least) are added to the pulped salad and keep the

mix at BODY temperature for at least 15 minutes before feeding, wait at

least 2 hours after this salad mix before feeding meaty bones for the best

results.

This salad helps diarrhea problems as well as constipation, boost the immune

system and gives extra b vitamins to boot :o)))) It helps to repair the

intestines by establishing good bacteria that prefers raw food and leafy

greens.

Joining one of the raw feeding lists is a good idea. There are many on

lists. By country, breed, size of dog or illness even.

My dog eat meaty bones as well as ground food (I do make it for others (cats

and dogs) so my dogs are the test animals :o)))) kept on for quality control

:o)))

I have seen some dogs on our food that were on progesterone and cortisone

(even shots) in a couple of weeks go to half dose to off their meds as the

symptoms cleared up. The owners helped their dogs through the detoxing with

anti oxidation vitamins and fermented salad. One owner after a year (she

had said she would try it for the year before she decided on how well it was

going) and when her dog had the best coat and best condition she went back

to her vet and gave him hell for having her dog on drugs for years and

visiting the vet each month that had cost her a fortune.

Hi Louise,

I too also make my dogs food using the BARF style. I have two Belgian

Sheepdogs and many of them do not do well with the commercial foods.

A lot people in town tell they are best looking dogs they have ever seen.

Their coats always shine and look healthy. Even though my female does have

some

allergies, do to a chemical posiion we had a few years I don't know what she

would be like if on the dog food.

I too teach people how to make their own food.
