RE: No-Flush Niacin vs Lipitor

Many moons ago I was in a doctors office, being told that my cholestral was

310 and I would need one of those anticholestral drugs. The alternative

presented was equally bleak. I went home, remembered some research I had

read on Niacin, and decided instead of the drugs to use Niacin; and I

adopted a very different diet ( low fat ( VERY little meat if any), high

fiber, lots of green and fresh vegetables; garlic, grapefruit, lots of

peppers, salsa, etc). The dosage of Niacin was 500mg tid- (release assured-

the flush lets me know its working).

I returned to this doctor 6 weeks later. He checked the levels again- and my

liver. A few days later I received the news that my cholestral was 167 and

the liver test was just fine.

Since then I have continued the same diet and the Niacin off and on. I

donate bllod every six weeks, and receive the benefit of having the

cholestral checked free. So far it has remained below 167. ( I also am a

firm believer that ,especially males, donating blood – or leeching, letting,

whatever term/form is used – is a very healthy practice, and will promote

better health. That’s also part of my practice that has ,so far these years,

worked very well, with never a single anticholestral medication.
