Guest guest
Hello, I read with interest the article about hunger in the world. It is indeed a disgrace. On TV not so long ago there was a program about someone who studied trash (!) as a means to discover interesting facts about our civilization. He said by far the most thrown away item was food. I seem to remember that it accounted for 35%, although this figure may be wrong. A good book that gave me the heads up about the unfair distribution of food and the complete failure of the politicians to manage it was " Diet for a Small Planet " . Just off the top of my head, I remember that when the US was sending grain to the Soviet Union, they were largely feeding it to livestock. So the grain never descended to the level of those who really needed it, just those who were able to afford meat. The starvation in North Korea really got to me. This has been going on for at least ten years. Also check out what has been going on in the Sudan, etc. Therefore, as a way of life and habit, we do not waste food in our house because too many people don't have what we do. If we can't help them directly (although Frances Lappe had some good practical ideas and acted on them), at least we can be modest in the use of the world's resources.
