My husband eats a low fat diet, eats oatmeal with ground flax seed on

it every morning and exercies (aerobically) about an hour a day. His

cholesterol is still above 200. His good cholesterol has gone up

quite a bit but the doctor now has him on 2 cholesterol lowering

drugs. Is there anything else he can do to get it lower besides the

drugs?

Hi Debbie,

Contrary to popular opinion, it IS possible to elevate HDL

cholesterol and eliminate the more harmful LDL without taking drugs.

I have a friend whose husband's cholesterol went sky high. They

refused the drugs and she put him on a more natural plant based diet

free from hydrogenated trans fatty acids, replaced his commerical

snacks with more healthy home made ones which were made with extra

virgin olive oil, eliminated all

canned processed foods from ths diet and and his cholesterol levels

were restored to normal without taking any harmful drugs.

Olive oil provides more essential fatty acids (omega-9s) than

refined oils. Refined oil tends to destroy our good HDLs as well. On

the other hand, Olive oil does not destroy HDL but rather elevates

the good and lowers the bad respectively so as you see this

condition is dependent mainly on our proper usage of the correct

fats and oils.

..

.. The low fat diet, although low fat is usually better, sometimes

have an abundance of hydrogenated fats included in them as well.

Hydrogenated fats are the most problematic for cholesterol levels.

All margarines, many commerical snacks, canned foods and fast foods

have bad fats included. Refined oils must be replaced with cold-

pressed expeller oils such as extra virgin olive oil for cooking.

Fried foods are definitely not allowed, although a few organic eggs

are good. Organic egg yolk is high in lecithin content which is more

beneficial than whites only.

If HDL (good) cholesterol is elevated, LDL doesn't pose much of a

problem and it is possible to achieve this with diet. I did and I'm

here to tell about it, although I must say, it was a real learning

experience!

Just remember, this is all about fats and as Udo and other experts

relate, there are bad fats and there are good fats. As long as you

have an abundance of the good fats the bad fats will not pose that

much of a problem. This is where udo's oils also comes in. The Udo's

oil blends contain all of the correct essential fats (n-3s, n-6s and

n-9s in the proper amounts for health and healing.

If his good cholesterol is starting to increase, he is on the right

track, although I certainly don't believe that drugs are necessary

to do this! Allopathic medicine will try to convince you that they

are necessary, but they are really not.

I'm aware of many who have achieved this purely through diet,

exercise and a healthy lifestyle(not smoking, exercise in the sun,

etc).

Vitamin D from the sun is useful in helping the body dispose of

excessive bad fats which may collect in our arteries.

Cholesterol drugs are linked to cancer. In addition, and contrary to

popular opiinion, they will not protect you from heart attack but

rather cause more additional problems in the long run, such as

muscle loss and other more severe side effects. In fact, drugs

introduce free radicals into the system. When free radicals are

unchecked, risk of heart attack is much greater!

It is important to eliminate or at least limit the quantity of

red meats and dairy products you consume each day, for they usually

are high in saturated fat content and lacking in all the essential

minerals.

Oatmeal is good, however what is put on it is important as well. if

it's the processed instant microwavable varieties that are high in

sugar, you will find that they are literally useless.

Oats as oat bran is most beneficial. More natural brands such as

the original oatmeal varieties are much better. We use original,

cooked with raisins in spring water and served with a little raw

honey.

Refined sugar will elevate triglycerides and cholesterol as well!~

If you can find organic brands, better yet. Kelloggs or General

Mills cannot guarantee that their products are gmo free.I do not

patronize them. I believe generic brands are better than the ones

they have to offer! Almonds, macademia nuts, avocadoes and garlic

elevate good cholesterol. The following foods are also beneficial…

Alaskan Salmon

Sardines in spring water

Grape seed extract or oil

Vitamin C rich foods (bell peppers, broccoli) Beta-carotene-

rich foods (carrots, spinach, broccoli,kale)

Wine in moderation

In closing I would like to say that we should drink at least eight

glasses of pure spring water every day. This helps to keep our serum

blood levels constant and provides the moisture that our body needs

to function well each day. It also helps to protect us from extreme

acidosis.

All the Best!

JoAnn
