Guest guest
I have very high cholesterol and wanted to try these policosanols that were available, laboratory approved, and safe. After taking what they call policosanol (source naturals is the brand)with plant waxes (not red yeast extract) and coenzyme Q10 I have " ELEVATED " my cholesterol. I was also not eating whole eggs and had a healthy high vegetable and fruit diet. My doctor informed me another patient of hers was also taking policosanol and his cholesterol also elevated. I am now on a low dose Lipitor, and not experiencing any side effects and my cholesterol was lowered 100 points, with improved HDL and lowered LDL levels. , Carol Minnick <algaelady1> wrote: > There is also a red rice yeast that helps to build > bones, so make sure you get the correct one for what > you want it to do. > Carol > > > > Protect your identity with Mail AddressGuard > http://antispam./whatsnewfree

Hi there, There is no indication that policosanol substitutes (which are the only brands that are currently available under FDA rulings) are effective. Anything on the market other than the original " Cholestin " which has been banned by the FDA is a waste of money. As Dr. Weil states, the efficacy of the others (policosanol included which is made from beeswax) has not been proven. The claims they are making for it are fraudulent!! Typical profits above lives scenario. Policosanol is a waste of money according to Dr. Weil!! If your cholesterol was elevated while you were taking COQ-10, it was not due to the effects of the Co-enzyme Q-10!! Co-Q10 has quite the opposite effect! The elevation of harmful cholesterol is primarily due to the effects of a typical western diet with tons of hydrogenated fats and processed refined foods! I lowered my cholesterol by purely natural means ( i.e. an all organic, primarily mediterranean diet (with eliminating dairy as well) and high dosages of time tested traditional supplements). I used only expeller pressed imported extra virgin olive oil high beneficial omega-9s in my diet. Expeller pressed EV olive oil contributes to the formation of beneficial HDL cholesterol, which scrubs arteries clean of LDL cholesterol and keeps them clean of harmful deposits. As you may know it helps to eliminate LDL's in our bloodstream by taking them to the liver where they can be disposed of. I firmly believe that it's the " types " of fats that we put in our bodies that are the basis for high LDL cholesterol, and refined oils and hydrogenated transfats are highest on the list of those we should avoid! Transfats are the very worst of the simple carbs,(with the exception of refined sugar which is even more problematic to our arteries). sugar forms triglycerides which may also pose a problem! Incidentally, no oil qualifies as health food, and unfortunately it is the abundance of omega-6s in refined processed oils and transfats that forms this arterial " plaque " and contributes to an excess of LDL cholesterol in our bloodstream. The toxic wastes that accumulate in our livers leading to fatty liver is also linked to the consumption of hydrogenated fats and ALL of those refined oils that we americans use. The more healthy choice is cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. The toxic by-products emanate from the refining process of the hydrogenated oils themselves! The only cooking oil that contains the essential omega-9 fats necessary for controlling LDL cholesterol is extra virgin olive oil. Using processed oils in cooking depletes the beneficial HDL (good) cholesterol as well. This is why those who change over to organic cold pressed oils do so much better over the course of time. Correct diet is the key to long term artery health. There is no other effective way! Supplements may aid in the process but will do little to correct existing problems unless dietary changes are made as well. My heart and artery health has been totally reversed over the past five to ten years simply by using more healthy organic foods and avoiding the more processed refined devitalized ones. Drugs are not the answer. Allopathic medicine tends to minimize the harmful side effects. Please be warned, they are very real! God Bless, JoAnn P.S. Udo's oils are beneficial for this also. www.udoerasmus.com
