Guest guest
Table of Food Sources of Selenium The selenium content of foods varies according to the growing area. The following table lists the mean selenium content of foods identified in the Total Diet Study (45) and in the USDA data bank (46). Food Micrograms% DV* Brazil nuts, dried, unblanched, 1 oz 8401200 Tuna, canned in oil, drained, 3 1/2 oz 78111 Beef / calf liver, 3 oz 4869 Cod, cooked, dry heat, 3 oz 4057 Noodles, enriched, boiled, 1 c 3550 Macaroni and cheese (box mix), 1 c 3246 Turkey, breast, oven roasted, 3 1/2 oz 3144 Macaroni, elbow, enriched, boiled, 1 c 3043 Spaghetti w/ meat sauce, 1 c 2536 Chicken, meat only, 1/2 breast 2434 Beef chuck roast, lean only, oven roasted, 3 oz 2333 Bread, enriched, whole wheat, 2 slices 2029 Oatmeal, 1 c cooked 1623 Egg, raw, whole, 1 large 1521 Bread, enriched, white, 2 slices 1420 Rice, enriched, long grain, cooked, 1 c 1420 Cottage cheese, lowfat 2%, 1/2 c 1116 Walnuts, black, dried, 1 oz 57 Cheddar cheese, 1 oz 46 *DV = Daily Value. DVs are reference numbers based on the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA). They were developed to help consumers determine if a food contains very much of a specific nutrient. The DV for selenium is 70 micrograms (mcg). The percent DV (%DV) listed on the nutrition facts panel of food labels tells adults what percentage of the DV is provided by one serving. Even foods that provide lower percentages of the DV will contribute to a healthful diet. I have seen this before - Mercury bonds with selenium thus making it harmless to our bodys. http://www.ithyroid.com/mercury.htm " Selenium is the key mineral which protects the body from mercury toxicity. One study showed that cilantro (Chinese parsley) helps remove mercury from the body and protects the body from pre-cancerous lesions. " It has been said that cilantro alone (without selenium) can send mercury past the blood brain barrier causing more problems. Another mercury page: http://www.mercola.com/article/mercury/detox_protocol.htm This makes unprocessed sea salt and brazil nuts extremely important sources of necessary minerals to neutralize mercury. Prof. Galzigna, former holder of the chair of biochemistry of Padova University, has told an international biological dentristry congress held this weekend in Padova, Italy, that mercury has the capacity of transforming dopamine, a naturally present neurotransmitter in the brain, into a toxic compound called dopaminochrome. > > > Friday, 7 November 2003 15:42 > Accusing mercury in tooth fillings: it leads to Parkinson's > > Source: www.italiasalute.it > > Mercury used in tooth fillings is heavily suspected to contribute to the appearance of symptoms of this serious neurological disease. This is what was announced by Prof. Lauro Galzigna of Padova, former holder of the chair of biochemistry of Padova university, on the first day of the international congress of biological dentistry, which was chaired by Prof. Raimondo Pische. Prof. Galzigna has told the congress participants - researchers from all over the world who came together to discuss the risks of mercury and other heavy metals in dental amalgams and as used in dentistry - of the first results regarding the connection between mercury and Parkinson's disease. " Mercury - says Professor Galzigna - could be neurotoxic by transforming the organism's dopamine into a toxic compound called dopaminochrome. Dopamine is a natural neurotranmitter that is vital for the functioning of the central nervous system. The lowering of dopamine concentration in brain tissue is an important biochemical > sign of Parkinson's disease. Patients who have the illness are given l-dopa, a precursor of dopamine. " Mercury transforms dopamine - adds the professor - into dopaminochrome, which plays an extremely important role in the the appearance of Parkinson's symptoms. > The congress of the International Academy of Biological Dentistry, chaired by Raimondo Pische, was opened by Oscar Carli who brought the best wishes of the Order of Medical Doctors, of the National Association of Dentists and of Padova University, as well as Dr. Daniele Vanni of the Orthodontic Society. For two days, researchers of universities from all over the world, including the Italian " La Sapienza " of Rome, " San Rafaele " and " Politecnico " of Milan and the University of Bari, discussed the great risks of mercury and heavy metals suggesting the use of " metal-free " products. > A thing that couldn't be missing: mention of the magician who in a local TV program has stated that he cures patients of tumors. Prof Carli has again warned public opinion of who, without being a medical doctor, is promising miraculous cures. > [ portions of this message have been removed]
