Guest guest
Study Finds White wine may help you Breathe JoAnn Guest Jun 24, 2003 14:11 PDT Study finds white wine may help you breathe New US research suggests white wine may be good for your lungs. A test of more than 1,500 people in New York found those who drank it had better breathing than those who drink beer or spirits. Scientists think antioxidants in the wine may keep the lungs in good condition. Researchers studied the lifestyles of volunteers and then tested the amount of air they could expel under laboratory conditions. Other studies have shown red wine may be beneficial in other ways, but scientists involved in this study found it was white wine which benefits breathing. Professor Holger Schunemann, of the University at Buffalo in Georgia, oversaw the study. He said: " This finding may indicate that nutrients in wine are responsible for the positive effect of alcoholic beverages on lung function. " Red wine in moderation has been shown to be beneficial for the heart, but in this case the relationship was stronger for white wine.
