*ALIVE AGAIN*

A Forum about Candida-Related Complex, Autoimmune disease, Food Intolerances

and Body Toxicity ~ how to Restore Your Body's Inner Balance, and Get Well

Candida-Related Complex manifests primarily in 5 areas of the body:

1. DIGESTIVE SYSTEM - Symptoms include bloating, gas, cramps, alternating

diarrhea with constipation or multiple food allergies. The individual may

feel allergic to all foods (pan-allergic);

2. NERVOUS SYSTEM - Symptoms include abnormal fatigue, spaciness, anxiety,

mood swings, drowsiness, memory loss, depression, insomnia, and/or mental

fogginess. In extreme cases, hallucinations, and violent behavior can

occur. Autism, hyperactivity, and learning disabilities in children can be

manifestations of fungal infestation;

3. SKIN: Symptoms include hives, psoriasis, eczema, excessive sweating,

acne, nail infections, rashes;

4. GENITO-URINARY TRACT - In women, common problems include PMS

(depression, mood-swings, bloating, fluid retention, cramps, cravings for

sweets and headaches prior to menstruation), recurrent bladder or vaginal

infections, and loss of interest in sex. In males, common problems include

chronic rectal or anal itching, recurrent prostatitis, impotence, genital

rashes, and jock itch;

5. ENDOCRINE SYSTEM - An intimate relationship exists in the body between

the immune system, the nervous system, and the endocrine system. The

thyroid and adrenal glands in particular may be involved. Both hypo- and

hyper- thyroidism, especially the autoimmune variety, are strongly linked to

Fungal Overgrowth;

Candida/fungal toxins can travel to virtually all organs and tissues in the

body. The syndrome has been associated with practically every medical

condition, including cancer, heart disease, MS, AIDS, asthma, arthritis,

chronic sinusitis, recurrent flu, middle ear infection, alcoholism,

addiction, diabetes, eating disorders, hypoglycemia, and many other less

common conditions. In some of these diseases fungi are secondary

" opportunistic " infections. In many, the fungal mycotoxins may be the cause.

In either case, a healthy immune system is the only natural defense against

these microbes and their poisons.

Do fungal infections occur because of altered immunity due to some other

cause (as in Leaky Gut ~ food intolerances, etc.)? Or do fungal infections

cause the altered immunity - which leads to immune disorders such as chronic

fatigue syndrome? The answer to both questions is YES. The debate is

similar to the theories on TB in the early half of this century - No matter

which came first - the micro-organisms involved must be directly dealt with

to reverse the disease. As with TB the overall health of the host must be

enhanced by better nutrition (ruling out ALL food intolerances - as in

Subclinical Gluten Intolerance, and intolerances to GRAINS), reduced stress,

cigarette and alcohol cessation, aerobic exercise, spiritual growth and a

less-polluted environment. (Dr. Z.P. Rona)

Jack Tips, PhD has written an excellent book entitled: YOUR LIVER, YOUR

LIFELINE . In this book he explains that detoxification and rejuvenation is

possible for the whole body via the Liver. He explains that the " Toxic

Stress Cycle " is simply the domino effect of how the overload of toxins in

the body is passed from one organ system to another until the body can deal

with it or chronic degeneration occurs. The basic cause of toxic stress, in

most cases, is improper eating habits. Many believe they are 'eating well,

and healthy' but are unwittingly feeding their body with foods that it

cannot tolerate. SUBCLINICAL GLUTEN INTOLERANCE is at epidemic proportions

in North America. How is it different from Celiac? Well, subclinical means

'hidden' - and the symptoms of it are not as clear and well-defined as

celiac, which means the body may react in other ways like " chronic

inflammation " of joints, muscles, mental instability, panic/anxiety, etc.

If the body has been trying to deal with 'chronic food intolerances' for

many years and has also suffered injury to it from prescription drugs

(steroids, anti-biotics, the Pill, etc.), eventually the body will develop

" gut dysbiosis " where the gut wall is 'perforated' allowing undigested

proteins and bacteria into the bloodstream. Once this happens - the body's

FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE - " the mucosal gut wall " is destroyed ~ and with this

goes one's strong immune system. Mal-Digestion will be a chronic complaint

- along with bloating, gas, acid reflux, and even mental manifestations.

From here on, the body will seem to 'attack itself' as it tries to rid

itself of the 'enemies' of these bacteria, etc. in the bloodstream. Candida

and other parasites, and viruses like Epstein-Barr flood in here because

they are " opportunists " and flourish in the toxic, poorly oxygenated, weak

environment. The the body is so burdened down that it *cannot* detoxify -

and many people then get diagnosed with " CFS " , " FM " , " Lupus " , " MS " , " CHRON'S

Disease " , autism, ADD, ADHD, " learning disabilities " , etc. If this cycle

is permitted to go further there will then be deeper disease and disorders

that eventually will be impossible to recover from. Jake Paul Fratkin, OMD

has summed this up well:

" People worry about many sorts of environmental toxins: vaccinations, dental

amalgams, pesticides, herbicides, food additives, chlorine, etc. It is true

that all of these are stressors on the body, and contribute to an overall

decline in health. The worst threat, however, is an ongoing toxic intrusion

from the cesspool that exists in our intestines. The body has a marvelous

mechanism, a selective intestinal permeability, that allows digested

nutrients in while keeping toxins meant for excretion out. Throughout

history, in general, this barrier has maintained its integrity. During the

last fifty years, due to the intrusive irritation of antibiotics and NSAIDs,

the average person's health has been significantly challenged and weakened. "

(speaking of Leaky Gut Sydrome)

Dr. Jack Tips explains the TRIAD (3 main points) of degenerating health:

" Here's a brief look at the Toxic Stress Cycle. This is a continuous cycle,

so we will begin where most of our problems start, in the Digestive System:

1) Poor Function of the Digestive System -The inability to properly digest

food... Virtually all diseases can be said to start with poor digestion.

This old naturopathic philosophy is proven again and again by the people who

correct their diets and digestive systems and find their health greatly

improved.

2) Toxicity of the Colon - (large intestine) - Occurs because without the

proper digestive enzyme activity, food remains undigested and cannot be

properly absorbed or eliminated causing gas, putrefaction, and toxic stress.

Improper enzyme activity results from eating incompatible foods at the same

time, eating too much, diluting meals with excessive water, alcohol or

caffeine and eating just before going to sleep. Proteins putrefy, sugars

ferment, and oils and fats turn rancid - all causing different kinds of

stress for the whole body. The rampant and unjustified abuse and overuse of

antibiotics in modern medicine destroys the beneficial flora of the colon.

Killing the beneficial bacteria flora causes a greater toxic load from

anaerobic bacteria, fungus and candida.

The entire intestinal tract must be cleansed since it is responsible for

supplying nutrition to the body. However, without proper elimination, the

bowel re-assimilates wastes, toxins, and other products of elimination,

which would normally be expelled. Further, a sluggish bowel slows the entire

digestive process down and provides a breeding ground for parasites and

bacteria.

3) Toxicity of the Liver and Gall Bladder - This occurs when the toxins

formed by poor digestion travel the following route: Through the portal

system, the circulatory system leads directly from the large intestine to

the liver and gall bladder. These organs then receive the toxins, gases,

fluids and nitrogens from the Colon. Most people pass ONE QUART of these

gases into their bloodstream throughout the day from the colon, including

nitrogen, methane, and hydrogen. The bloodstream also absorbs many other

chemicals that can make the liver toxic. When the liver is congested or

preoccupied with excessive toxic chemicals, it cannot rebuild itself well or

provide the proper enzyme systems for other areas of the body to rebuild.

Despite the phenomenal amount of work the liver can do, there are limits to

what it can accomplish. Organs and glands that have an impaired ability to

rebuild are prone to infection (Candida will infect AND can colonize a

liver). Their environment becomes suceptible to illness. The liver's help

in maintaining other tissues is another supporting role that it plays for

the immune system.

Whatever the liver can't handle effectively will be dumped back into the

bloodstream to be sent on to the kidneys. The kidneys pass the toxins to the

urinary bladder. The kidneys are responsible to filter the blood and

regulate the mineral components of the blood for pH balance and metabolic

function. If they fail to do their job effectively, long term metabolic

disturbances can occur, as well as water retention and a tendency to

osteoporosis.

What toxins the kidneys can't handle travel through the bloodstream to the

alveolar sacs in the lungs...When excessive toxins are in the blood they can

interfere with oxygen absorption as well as cause hypersensitivity of lung

tissue and become an aggravating factor in asthma. If the lungs cannot

effectively eliminate what doesn't belong in the body, the toxins remain in

the blood. Thus the circulatory system is thereby affected. Because there

is a lack of oxygen in the circulatory system not enough oxygen gets to the

cells to burn sugars, proteins, and fats for energy. The Lymph becomes

congested with the waste materials from the cells. The blood cannot handle

all of it, and in order to stabilize the pressure and keep the osmosis

factor balanced, the bloodstream will dump toxins into the lymphatic system,

resulting in congested and toxic lymph, swollen lymph nodes, and passing

greater stress onto the Spleen - the filter for the lymphatics and

co-creator of the immune system's b-lymphocytes. The lymphatic system

already has its own waste disposal system for the removal of metabolic acids

and wastes - when overloaded, the body suffers at the cellular level.

From a position of toxic blood and toxic lymph, the toxins can more fully

impact the Heart. ...from here the Muscles and Soft Tissues are not getting

proper oxygen for oxidation of the fats and the sugars. The muscles, which

are being loaded down with old lactic acid, become very painful and begin to

show the stress. They get stiff and pull the vertebra causing subluxations

of the spine, rotations, tilts, and torques. The Spine then becomes

dislocated and this affects the brain and nerve flow to all of the organs

including the glands...The endocrine system then becomes depleted both

nutritionally and energetically, which in turn prevents the manufacturing of

sufficient enzymes for Digestion and the whole Toxic Stress Cycle starts

again. "

BREAK THE TOXIC STRESS CYCLE!! Be willing to learn and make changes... it

will be a journey that will define you. Take responsibility for your own

health, and live life to the fullest!
