Guest guest
10/26/03 Hello. I found your e-mail refreshing and encouraging. May I add that I have been trying to get off of my medications and when I went to see my doctor recently I found out that my job counselor told my counselor through the VA that I felt I needed to get off of my medications. Believe me, I really would like to get off of the medications I am on because of the side effects they give. Not only have I gained weight, which isn't good for my asthma; but the Depakote that I agreed to go on gives me headaches at times. I have checked some websites that mention that Depakote can affect the liver and I wonder why research labs haven't come up with a better medication that does not affect the liver. I also am tired of my therapist not supporting some of my decisions as if I cannot make decisions on my own. Recently I was told of a wonderful website at: www.healthyplace.com and another site: http://chandra.astro.indiana.edu/bipolar. These sites help a person to find professionals and other people who share common mental illnesses and how they overcame the obstacles/labeling that mental illness often forces upon people who have one. I was really happy to be informed of the above websites because the other websites I have visited just didn't give me the indepth information that I craved. Thank you for sharing with others on the e-mails and I hope that your continued support of others with mental illness will inspire to give of their time/monies and support.
