Dear reader,

Coenzyme Q10 (coQ10) is an essential component of one of the

most fundamental biochemical processes in living beings: the

converting of fuel into energy. That process is what allows

all our hearts to pump, our brains to work, our immune

systems to fight disease. So a deficiency of coQ10 could lead

to a wide range of illnesses and health problems -- and it

could be fatal. Need I say more?

Well, actually, I want you to know one more thing about coQ10

that you might not have heard before: It's also an important

nutrient for your teeth!

Healing and repair of periodontal tissues requires efficient

energy production, which is dependent on an adequate supply

of coQ10. Biopsies on gums of individuals with periodontal

disease have shown a deficiency of this nutrient. And, over

the past 30 years, there has been growing research showing

that coQ10 can help heal gum disease. In one three-week,

double-blind study dating back to 1976, 18 patients with

periodontal disease were given either 50/mg a day of coQ10 or

a placebo. Results were assessed in terms of gum

inflammation, bleeding, pain, and tooth mobility. All eight

patients given coQ10 improved, compared to only three of 10

given the placebo. In recent double-blind studies, the coQ10

groups exhibited significant improvement in all objective

criteria, such as bleeding gums, reduction of pockets and

gingival inflammation when compared to placebo groups.

Your own dentist may very well overlook this crucial part of

dental health, but Dr. Wright usually recommends that his

patients take two 30-mg capsules of coQ10 a day.

One of nature's own antibiotics

Q: My wife started taking colloidal silver with good results.

She gave some to my grandsons, and they had good results. She

has become very interested in colloidal silver.

She makes her own and spends a great deal of time on the

various Web sites and chat rooms dedicated to this topic. Do

you have any experience with colloidal silver? What is your

opinion?

JVW: I've worked with colloidal silver since its revival in

the 1980s. Because of the early-century cases of " argyria "

(this is when the skin turns a bluish-gray color in localized

areas, and has been blamed by some authors on overuse of high

doses of non-colloidal silver), I've recommended that its use

be limited to combating episodes of acute infection and that

it not be used continuously. Most people who've used it this

way have reported that it clears up infection more rapidly

than when it isn't used.

For adults, I recommend 1 tablespoon of colloidal silver at a

40 ppm (parts per million) concentration at the first signs

of any infection and, after that, 1-2 teaspoons three to four

times daily until the infection is gone. Then stop!

Children's quantities should, of course, be less and related

to body weight. (For very small children, it's always best to

consult with a physician skilled and knowledgeable in

nutritional and natural medicine.)

One last thing...

More good news about coQ10 -- if you decide to take that 60

mg/day for your gums, you're going to be helping your heart

too. With this nutrient, it's really a win/win situation.

Yours in good health,

Amanda Ross
