Valerie asked: How can I help improve my son's concentration?

Hi Valerie,

Have you, OR Can you remove ALL sugar and processed foods from his

diet--just feed him basic foods like carrots, meat, eggs, bananas etc.

Nothing much from packages or cans except canned fish. You can also try

no dairy for a month and no grain for a different month.

For a different reason I went to school with my 7 year old and sat all day

in the room with my son for one week. Had him changed to another room and

sat there all day for another week.

You could try that; It will really get the teachers attention and you may

discover something useful. The other students will not distract him while

you are watching.

And you may find out that there is a communication problem.

I personally was bored all during grade school, after I learned to read! I

became a voracious reader; and was often chastised for reading secretly

during dull lessons.

I worked 30 or 40 hours a week during the last two years of High School--of

course my grades were poor.

Nine years after High School I went to College and quickly learned all

that was necessary to have learned in High School. I earned an Engineering

Degree and became a leader teacher of Engineers.

So I take a pragmatic view of school.

Later I taught some adult Ed classes at night school for three terms. Fewer

of my students dropped out than any other class in the College for each of

three terms.

My Brother Pat, was sick during the reading teaching in the first grade,

the school was delinquent and did not teach him to read. Mom asked me to

help him learn to read, but I was unsuccessful. He became a workaholic and

alcoholic until He finally learned to read when He was about fifty years

old, then became a counselor, wrote a book and is now a excellent writer.!

Make sure your son loves to read and then He can always learn anything He

needs.

Try something like " Hooked on Phonics " or a tutor. He must learn to read

now.

Other subjects in his school are not important at this age. Get some books

and read some short interesting stories to him. Short stories, He is only

six.

Nothing else matters at this age like reading matters.

Valerie, Make sure that you are not too tense; not pushing too much, some

kids just are late bloomers, I was one. You are a responsible Mom, but be

careful. The first child in the family usually grows up tense and

aggressive because the parents were tense. The younger children have an

easier time.

Read Erma Bombeck.

Best Wishes for your Child,

Lorenzo

P.S.

If you live in a State that does not believe in teaching reading; You

really need to do something.

I have an uneasy feeling that some States do not want any child to learn to

read except those who have a natural talent for reading or those whose

Parent can teach them. These school use a book with pictures and the kids

learn the story under the picture. This method is NOT called phonetic. Some

call it work recognition or sight reading.

This method provides more adults to work at low pay.

C'est la vie!

How can I help improve my son's

concentration?

My six year old son is having a lot of trouble with his concentration

at school and I was wondering if anyone knows of any natural

supplements that may help him.

He eats a healthy diet, never misses breakfast, does not have ADD

or ADHD, or any other behavioural problems.

Blood tests did not reveal any abnormalities and I do nightly

meditations with him especially aimed at children.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Valerie.
