Any suggestions?? > Thanks, bernie Hello Bernie, I am also very susceptible and my strategy is: Avoid crowds whenever possible. Carry my home-made anti viral/bacterial hand wipes everywhere and use them to wipe shopping cart handles etc. as we are far more likely to pick up a stray virus or bacteria from our hands (then touching our faces) than those that are air-borne. Take 2000g vitamin C and lots of fresh garlic every day. At the *very first sign* of a sniff, sore throat etc I take 2 Pluton (homeopathic) pilules and some Elderberry extract. Get enough sleep. Keep warm. I also take 5ml Astragalus 6 days a week and have done so for many years. I have a very compromised immune system and also am in the 'old age' bracket but, even though all around me (including my husband who doesn't take the above remedies) have succumbed this winter, I haven't even had a sniffle. I work very hard but try to get at least 30 minutes a day walking in the fresh air and also at least 6 hours sleep. Any suggestions?? > > Thanks, bernie Take vitamin C. Take as much vitamin C as your body wants. Take it in many small does all throughout the day & not a handful of tablets once or twice a day. See here for details: http://alternative-medicine-message-boards.info/viewforum.php?f=10 I do some tablets & the rest as ascorbic acid dissolved in water & sipped. Do a plain water chaser as the acid should not be left on your teeth. Fresh chopped raw garlic is very good. Buffered vitamin C can be mixed with water & put into a dropper bottle. Tip head back & squirt 2 droppersful up each nostril. Don't use the unbuffered C as it will burn. I use non-alcoholic Echinacea liquid extract. 4 droppersful 3 times a day as soon as the cold hits. But the best cure is prevention. And vitamin C to bowel tolerance will do that for most folks. Alobar
Guest guest
Bernie Take between 8 - 10,000mgs of Vit C a day. I've been taking the above for three years now and I just don't get sick anymore. A heaped teaspoon is about 8,000mgs. It's best taken in divided doses throughout the day but that is not always practical if you're a working man. Guest guest
Hey, Bernie! Do you have a Chinatown, or Chinese herbalist in your area? There are some excellent patent medicines that can cure a cold, if taken within the first 2 or 3 days. Gan Mao Ling is good for regular colds, Banlangen is good if you start with a sore throat (If the blue box--root-- doesn't get a response, use yellow box--entire plant). These are really inexpensive products. If you can get your hands on these, you might wish to keep a couple bottles on hand, to hit early. You can double the dose. Side effect: you'll dehydrate a little, so consume extra fluids. Knowing about this will take the fear out of catching a cold, because there's something you can do that reliably works. Then you can skip flu shots. Steve bernie1062 wrote: > I am very susceptable to getting the flu, bronchitis etc. But I want > to avoid getting a flu/pnuemonia shots. I make sure always to have water with me. Now that I know to take my vitamin C in divided doses, I always have vitamin C with me also. Taking C in large doses can be rough on the system because the body likes a nice even titre of C in the blood. Alobar

Guest guest
Vaccinations are dangerous and unproven. How is it that these clinics know what flu viurs will hit the public before the flu season even begins? It ought to make the public suspicious, but that would be expecting too much. I have had the flu once since I was 14 years old, and that was almost 20 years ago. I'm now 44. I've never had a flu shot and never will. I know many people who get them every year and still get the flu once every other year or so. I don't waste too much time trying to figure out why they're getting the stupid shots, and why they don't see a possible connection. I'd suggest strengthening your immune system through exercise, good nutrition, abstinence from junk food, especially sugar, a proper amount of sleep, and spending a lot of time outside. Herbs like garlic, echinacea, and other immune system builders will help, but they won't do much if your diet is poor. The worst thing that one can do to the immune system is to listen to advice of the average drug-pushing doctor. Guest guest
You can add something to your water called 'Emergen-C' that is like Gatorade but I think much healthier that has a lot of electrolytes including 1,000 mg of Vitamin C, along with potassium and other essential nutrients and tastes nice. The packettes are the size of Koolaide packette, open one and throw it in water, it fizzes to mix or put it in water ahead of time that you carry. I think it makes water tastes better too and you get Vit C in every swallow. Barb --- Alobar <alobar wrote: > > > I've been a working many my entire > life. Guest guest
I am very dubious of Emergen-C except in emergencies (no pun intended). 1. I am not real clear what is in the " flavors " they put in the packs. They do sell one type which actually contains instant coffee. I sure don't want that in any health drink I take daily. 2. Then there is the cost. I have not done a thorough on-line search, but I saw prices ranging from $8-10 for 36 packets. Lets use the $8 price. That works out to a little over 22 cents a gram for vitamin C -- which is equivalent to about $100 a pound for vitamin C. The last time I bought a 3 pound jar of buffered vitamin C, it cost me about $40 or so. So I can buy 7-1/2 pounds of buffered C for the same price as 1 pound of Emergen-C. As I use about 2 pounds of C every month (because I use C to bowel tolerance daily -- as the websites I quoted in another thread last night suggest is prudent), the cost factor becomes significant. Convenience is certainly nice. But if one is fighting the onset of a cold, one is likely to use more than $10 a day worth of the Emeergen-C. I don't know about you, but when I am spending that kind of money, I tend to hold-back & use less than I really need. And taking too little C when I am starting to get sick just prolongs the cold I am trying to zap as quickly as possible. Guest guest
DOES? Everyone know that Vitamin C is available in powder and also in buffered powder, at about $20 a pound on the internet. Bronson is one source with several varieties.
