I was 62 when I was finally able to stop. I didn't do it for my health but I did it because the price went up. I had just bought a carton with a $5 coupon..when my supervisor came into the store and said cigarettes were going up $5 a carton...I said this is my last carton. I made that carton last 2 weeks and put the final 2 packs wrapped in foil in the freezer...just in case. I put the money I had been spending in a special savings account..and a year later I used it as part of a down payment on a brand new car.

I managed a C-store so I was always around cigarettes and selling them to others...so, some of my tricks..1. I would hold a pencil in my fingers like a cigarette,2. I would put the end of a sucker stick in my mouth when I felt the need,3.If I was working I would go over and sniff at the packs of cigarettes...and yes, you could smell the tobacco and it helped..and no, I didn't do it when I had customers in the store.

This past year I was having a bad time because I was trying to lose weight and cigarettes had always helped. I dug the cigarettes out of the freezer, unwrapped them and opened the pack up....then caught myself and broke the filters off and then broke the cigarettes up. I saved the tobacco to be used as an offering when I picked something in nature...it was a special offering as it was something I wanted but gave up.

The ironic(funny) part of this is that I had some of my son's cigarettes in the refrigerator freezer all this time...and they never bothered me...I smoked menthol and these were regulars.

I wish everyone lots of luck in their struggle to quit. You MUST find a reason to quit that means something to you....not because someone(doctor, family, friends) tells you that you should quit.

Sorry this got so long...It is a struggle...and don't believe those people who say you can do it by just quitting. The urge, unfortunately, does stay with you and just like any addiction it is a constant fight...but eventually it is worth it. JUst let your kids or grandkids ask you why you are smoking or you can't find any place to go have a cigarette.

Always available to offer moral support and encouragement to anyone that wants it.

I stopped when I was 46 and had to have stents put in

my arteries cause they had closed up due to 30 years

of smoking. Cardiologist said they wouldnt put them in

if I didnt stop it wouldnt make any difference. only

way I did it was with the nicotin inhalers. I wish you

all luck it can be done.
