Natural Hair Color

If you want to intensify or highlight your natural hair color, try using various herbs and plants. While they won't change your hair color dramatically, they will give it a boost when used as a final rinse after you shampoo.

Chamomile and Calendula will add golden tones to blonde or light brown hair. To intensify the highlighting of these herbs add the juice of 1 lemon and let your hair dry in the sun. Fresh rhubarb will also give you a golden color.

Hibiscus will add red highlights to blonde, brown or red hair.

Rosemary, sage or strong black tea will add deep brown tones to brown or black hair while elderberry will add bluish-black tones.

To make an herbal hair rinse:

Add 2 to 5 Tablespoons dried herb and 2 to 4 cups water to a non-aluminum pan. The more herbs you use the more intense the color. Bring to a boil and then simmer until the volume is reduced by about one half. Let cool. Strain the liquid into a spray bottle. Saturate your shampooed hair with the decoction. Dry and style as usual.

“If you are discouraged it is a sign of pride, because it shows you trust in your own powers. Never bother about other people's opinions. Be humble and you will never be disturbed. Remember St. Aloysius, who said he would continue to play billiards even if he knew he was going to die. Do you play well? Sleep well? Eat well? These are duties. Nothing is small for God.”
