Guest guest
Let's Celebrate ThanksgivingThanksgiving is a time for family, friends and loved ones to get together and share gratitude and appreciation for one another and to share a meal which reflects the bounty of the harvest. As the holiday approaches, I wanted to share with all of you some ideas to make your celebration of Thanksgiving even more special than it already is.Before Thanksgiving:Have family and friends create a list things they are grateful for and have them share their list on Thanksgiving. Benefit: Everyone gets to participate, learn more about each other.Find a new recipe that can augment the traditional meal you prepare. Benefit: Moves you out of the same old routine and adds something new.Visit your local farm market and purchase fresh produce such as potatoes, yams, squash and apples. Benefit: Supports your local farmers, can make your meal healthier, reminds us to be grateful for the earth from which the food grows.Show your appreciation of the wildlife that surrounds you by collecting or creating items to use to decorate a "Thanksgiving Tree". Make pine cone bird feeders (pine cones spread with peanut butter and dipped in bird seed), purchase or make suet balls or string stale bread together. Benefits: Great family activity, great reminder that our outside friends need support also. Thanksgiving Day:Delegate responsibilities so everyone participates and feel included in the festivities.Encourage everyone to share what they are grateful for.Decorate your outside Thanksgiving Tree for your feathered friends.Appreciate your family traditions and acknowledge any new ideas or suggestions for next year. After Thanksgiving:Make Thanksgiving a year around activity by starting a gratitude jar. Each day everyone writes down at least one thing they were grateful for that day and drops it in the jar. Next year at Thanksgiving it is easy to pull out the slipsand re-experience all those wonderful memories.Start a memory calendar. Purchase one of the large desk calendars with lines and have everyone write down what they are grateful for that day and use the calendar next Thanksgiving to remember all that you have to be grateful for.Adopt a local family less fortunate to purchase gifts for and make their holiday season more special.author unknown Warn November BlessingsFrom Jennifer
