<p> Co-op America's kicking off a year of Wal-Mart action, with our <a

Holiday Pledge</a>. We're urging people across the country to let Wal-Mart know

that they'll be making holiday purchases with companies that have real positive

social and environmental impacts, such as those listed in the <em><a

Pages</a> & trade;</em>.</p>

<p>You can <a

href= " http://lists.coopamerica.org/t/1140318/165584/77367/0/ " >help us mobilize

people now</a> and throughout 2006. </p>

<p>In January 2006, we'll publish our <strong>Wal-Mart Consumer

Guide</strong>, packed with information about the social and environmental

impact of Wal-Mart, links to campaigns throughout the country that individuals

and communities can join, and tools for local organizers to get their

communities involved in stopping Wal-Mart. </p>

<p><strong>Our goal is to get the guide into the hands of at least 100,000

consumer-activists across the country. To do this, we need to <a

href= " http://lists.coopamerica.org/t/1140318/165584/77367/0/ " >raise $20,000 by

November 15th</a>. </strong></p>

<p>A generous foundation will match dollar-for-dollar all gifts up to

$10,000. So your gift of $50, $100, or more will be doubled to help increase the

impact of this campaign.</p>

<p>While $20,000 may seem like a small amount of money when going

head-to-head with a company the size of Wal-Mart, Co-op America has always made

a little go a long way. Similarly sized contributions helped us get copies of

our <em>Building Communities</em> guide into the hands of community activists,

and led Citibank to commit to ending predatory lending by its subsidiaries. And

we were also able to push Procter & amp; Gamble to convert some of their coffee

to Fair Trade with modest contributions, a lot of hard work, and your

participation in our efforts. </p>

<p><strong>Together, we can mobilize consumer voices across the country to

demand change from Wal-Mart. </strong></p>
