Essential Oil Q & A ***************** Q: Could one make a nasal spray which moisturizes the nasal passages using oils? I would think that tea tree would be good but I know its too strong to use just like that. I also get sinus related ear ache. Is tea tree oil too strong to apply into ears with an ear bud? A: Here is a recipe I found for a nasal spray: 1 teaspoon Eucalyptus Oil 1 teaspoon of Marjoram 1 tablespoon of water Use less Essential Oils if it burns too much. Don't blow your nose for at least 5 minutes after using the spray. The formula should last for several hours. Q: Could you please tell me what oils would be useful for itchy scaly scalp and thinning lifeless hair? A: Here are some Essential Oils that may reduce hair loss: Roman Chamomile, Lemon, Thyme, Rose, Sage, Clary-Sage and Rosemary. Some basic things to keep in mind are to avoid chlorinated pools, don't shampoo too often, and avoid heavy conditioning treatments and chemical hair products. The following recipes from "The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy," by Valerie Ann Worwood The first shampoo loosens the crusty layer of dead skin cells and, in the washing, these are taken off. Also, it stimulates the healing mechanisms of the skin to prevent a further buildup of dandruff scales. Use this shampoo only, avoiding the harsh shampoos on the market. Soap stew 4 ounces Rosemary 18 drops Thyme 10 drops Sage 8 drops Blend together well This next shampoo stimulates a healthy scalp and thick, shining hair: Soap Stew 4 ounces Sage 10 drops Lemon 12 drops Basil 5 drops Eucalyptus 15 drops Peppermint 15 drops Blend well together Keep in mind that thinning hair probably has root causes and you might want to look into where it is coming from to fix the problem for good. Q: I am down here on the Gulf Coast where Katrina hit. We are seeing a lot of mold. We have a brand new leather sofa set. The electricity is not on yet. What can we put on it to prevent mold. It hasn't happened yet. I thought maybe lemon oil. A: You can try this recipe used for shower mold and mildew. I think it should help to prevent mold from any damp surface or area. 1/2 Cup Baking Soda 10 drops Tea Tree essential oil 10 drops Lavender essential oil 10 drops Geranium essential oil Combine all ingredients and using a damp sponge or cloth, rub the suspected area. For serious mildew buildup areas, combine 20 drops of Tea Tree and water in a spray bottle, and spray area everyday for 5 days, then 2x a week. My Religion is simple.
