Guest guest
September Recipes Aromatherapy for Children It's rapidly approaching that time again. Back to school for children and adults alike. One thing to keep in mind is the ever present danger of backpacks. While the backpack itself isn't such a big and scary thing, overloading them and carrying them incorrectly can be. Many children (and adults too) tend to cram it as full as possible then fling it over one shoulder and walk with a noticible slant to one side. This is a back injury waiting to happen. Better to not put quite so much into it, put both straps securely on each shoulder and make sure the weightload hits higher up on the back, rather than dragging down past the waist (another potential for back problems) Essential oils used at this time of year for children can take the form of a preventative to help build up the immune system, a stress reliever for 'first-day-at- school-nerves' or even to help with mysterious upset tummies. Have a peek at our recipes and see if there's one there that may be right for your little one. Antiviral Immune Booster (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=ky5yznbab.0.796gn9n6.mrhnotn6.4614 & p=http://www.57aroma\ s.com) These two oils are both strong anti-virals, known to be effective against chickenpox and mumps! Melissa (true)(Melissa officianalis) Bergamot(Citrus bergamia) Add 4 drops of each oil to a bath before bedtime for a good preventative soak. If you hear of an outbreak at school, add 3 drops of each oil to 10ml of Sweet Almond or another carrier oil and rub on chest and back after the bedtime bath. If you suspect your child is coming down with something, do a neck wrap. To 2 cups of warm water add 4 drops of each oil. Dip a face cloth into water, wring out and put around neck. Tuck a towel around the neck on top of the face cloth to help keep it warm longer. Childhood Anxiety Blend (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=ky5yznbab.0.796gn9n6.mrhnotn6.4614 & p=http://www.57aroma\ s.com) A beautiful blend to help calm little ones down. 10 drops Lavender(Lavendula angustifolia) 10 drops Green Mandarin(Citrus reticulata) 5 drops Roman Chamomile(Anthemis nobilis) Combine all oils in a 5ml bottle, seal and invert to blend. This blend can be diffused in a room, added to a bowl of hot water for inhalation, added to a tissue for a portable scent or even put in a necklace-type diffuser for wearable access throughout the day. Tummy Trouble Blend (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=ky5yznbab.0.796gn9n6.mrhnotn6.4614 & p=http://www.57aroma\ s.com) Most tummy upsets can be soothed with this blend. 2 drops Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) 2 drops Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) 1 drop Ginger (Zingiber officinalis) 10mls Sweet Almond or Jojoba oil Gently rub on tummy in a clockwise motion for 2-3 minutes. Encourage the child to take deep breaths. Keep the lights dim and try to keep the room quiet as well. -- Diana Gonzalez Nothing wastes more energy than worrying - the longer a problem is carried, the heavier it gets. Don't take things too seriously - live a life of serenity, not a life of regrets. -Unknown
