Guest guest
Tell Wal-Mart: workers' rights are human rights! When Wal-Mart's workers try to form a union, they often endure threats, intimidation, even firings. Is this any way to treat employees whose goal is merely to sit down with management to discuss fair pay, more affordable health care, and worker safety concerns? Tell Wal-Mart that workers' rights are human rights, and its union-busting tactics must stop! It seems like every day brings another story about Wal-Mart's ruthless labor tactics. A typical one goes like this - workers at a Wal-Mart store successfully form a union. But rather than negotiate with the employees for better wages and healthcare, Wal-Mart simply closes the store and fires all of its workers. When Wal-Mart workers try to form a union, they often endure threats, discrimination, intimidation, and even firings. Is this any way to treat employees whose goal is simply to sit down with management to discuss fair pay, more affordable health care, and worker safety concerns? Wal-Mart's behavior has a huge impact on our society. The company employs a staggering 1.3 million people in the U.S. alone - from students working to pay for school, to single parents supporting families and older employees looking to supplement a fixed income and pay escalating medical bills. While they struggle to make ends meet, Wal-Mart, the world's largest company, rakes in $10 billion a year in profit. It's clear that Wal-Mart can afford to give its workforce a bigger piece of the pie. But with the Bush Administration willing to turn a blind eye to many of the company's labor law violations, we'll need to build major public pressure to bring about real change in Wal-Mart's business practices.
