RECYCLING SWEATERS

NECK PILLOW

What you need:

1 sleeve from a long-sleeved sweaterneedle & threadfilling, such as polyfill

I use a washable sweater so the pillow can be washed. Different size sweaters will make different size pillows.

1. cut the sleeve from the sweater and trim the seam off. Remove the cuff. Now cut the sleeve into 2 rectangles the same size. Save all the scraps.

2. Sew up the 2 long sides to make a tube. Turn and fold under the two ends and make a hem, then make a gathering stitch around the hemmed area and gather up one end tight. Be sure to sew it firmly.

3. Stuff it very firm, the sew up the open end as you did the other end.

This makes a very soft and comfortable neck pillow and is easy to make. A good craft bazarr item. You can add any decorations to the ends you want, but the fewer the trims, the more comfortable is the neck pillow.

Be sure to save all those scraps and chop them up and add to your "stuffing bag".

WHAT IS A STUFFING BAG, YOU ASK? This is any plastic or other bag that you store your scraps to be used to stuff toys, pillows, etc. Chop up all your fabric scraps and add them to your bag untill you have enough to use. I use the cut-off seams and waistbands, etc from recycled jeans, the cut-off parts of clean sweaters.

Another tip: Make sure that you use only clean sweters and jeans for recycling.
