Guest guest
MIGRAINES AND THE GENTLE TOUCH by Paul Newcomb Migraine is a biological disease that affects more than 30 million Americans. With better diagnosis and with reporting of this disease on the rise, an almost 60 percent increase in prevalence of Migraine over the past decade has been noted. Migraine is a neurological and oftentimes hereditary disease. Migraine is typically characterized by severe, recurringhead pain, usually located on one side of the head and oneor more of the following associated symptoms: nausea;vomiting; and increased sensitivity to light, sound andsmell. Other associated symptoms may include lightheadedness, diarrhea and scalp tenderness. Migraine symptoms vary foreach individual sufferer, making diagnosis complicated. Many breakthroughs regarding the biological and geneticcauses of Migraine have been made in recent years. Andwhile certain of the exact biological mechanisms are still being studied, it is known that Migraine is caused by neurological, not psychological, mechanisms. Hence, breakthroughs in treatment offer hope and relieffor millions of people who suffer from the physical and emotional pain of migraine In the past, migraine tended to be managed in a way thateither prescribed drugs that helped prevent attacks orthose that treated during an attack but not both. Modern migraine management is based on the multi-factor approach that addresses four aspects of care: preventative treatment, trigger management, abortive treatment, and general pain management. Gentle Touch Practitioners, hereafter referred to asTouchers, who suffer from migraines modify the standardmedical approach by supplementing it with the Touch. In the area of preventative treatment, Touchers who sufferfrom migraines will seek out opportunities to use theTouch, as they know that the Toucher also benefits. Theywill use it on themselves in a general fashion even though there is no pain in the head and neck area. They will pay particular attention to the back of the neck where the spine joins the skull. Many go to sleep at night while contacting the triggerpoint. This approach allows the Toucher to wean herselfoff those drugs and herbs that reduce blood vesselswelling. Trigger management for Touchers is identical with that ofthe medical profession. Bright lights and certain foodsare avoided, including MSG. Things like worry and emotionsare not factors. While some still consider caffeine as a trigger, it maynot be a trigger for everyone. A Gentle Touch staff member received a prescription for caffeine to relieve the migraine pain caused by vasodilation. She started taking strong black coffee as a preventative before she had heard of the Touch as a preventative. Most migraine sufferers know when an attack is coming, including Touchers. If they feel an attack coming on, they stop whatever it is that they are doing and get into a restful position. They then apply the Touch all over the head and in particular to the back of the neck. The key is to counterattack as early as possible. With experience, one may abort most if not all migraine attacks. ------ ORDER YOUR COPY OF THE GENTLE TOUCH AT http://chetday.com/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?gtb ------ General Pain Management is what the Gentle Touch is allabout. You use it around the area of any pain and relievethe muscle spasm. At the same time your body will increasethe availability of endorphins. As a result you areattacking the migraine in two ways. Working with their doctors, we encourage new Touchers toease back on their medications used to treat migraines asmuch as possible, taking only what is necessary to controlthe pain. Do not give up on the Touch if the pain is not eliminated. Instead use your migraine to become adept with the Touch. Your migraine can be used to overcome the most severe problem with learning the Touch. Look for the day when you will be as free of the pain as the two ladies are in the testimonies below. Doris in Florida writes: Dear Paul: Thanks for showing me how to control my migraines. These dominated my life about twice a month. Now they are not a problem and I'm saving money on drugs. And from South Africa, E.D., a full time Third Worldhealer, writes: Just using the Touch on my head and neck before going tobed makes me sleep better. The migraines seem to bepermanently gone. I haven't had an attack since I startedusing it daily. See you then!
