Guest guest Posted February 16, 2005 Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 Hello, I have been renting my place since last May, at that time the coakroaches were pretty bad. There was so many that I had to resort to an exterminator. I literally had a daily war using raid, and killed tens everyday. But it didn't work, he came back 3 times, but those pesty things would return as soon as he left, even when there was no food. I guess they were coming from outside. They were mainly in the kitchen and bathroom, but occassionally I found them in the living room. Now I really detest using raid and an exterminator, but I don't know of any other options. Are there some natural ways that can repel coakroaches? Guest guest Posted February 16, 2005 Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 I have learned recently ... after moving here to Tucson, that the Roaches here come up through the plumbing. One of the things they do here is to put stoppers in all the sinks etc when not in use. My SIL puts a little bleach down each of her drains around March ... just before they spray the washes and treat the sewers ... which I guess cause the Roaches to come up to get away from it. My SIL says that the Bleach keeps them from coming up her drains for up to 6 months. I haven't had to deal with it yet, but I sure hope it works ... Roaches give me the creeps and I've led a fairly sheltered life when it comes to them. I had them once (small ones compared to a lot of areas) when we moved into an apartment in Federal Way, WA ... but I think they were coming from next door. Guest guest Posted February 16, 2005 Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 Hey there. Living where I do, cockroaches are inevitable. What with the underground subways and all. So here's what I do. The best thing to do about cockroaches, is to get combat for cockroaches. It really works! Put it everywhere you see them. It will take a good month for this to work, remember. Also, you have to sweep the floors, and mop more often than the usual person-about 2x a week. When you mop, just use a bit of dishwashing liquid, some vineger, and some essential oils of tea tree and mint. The minty scent will keep the critters away. What else....Oh! You CANNOT leave food out at all.Do not leave anything opened in your pantry. Put it in a container. Flour goes in the freezer. If this doesn't work within a month, get the raid brand foggers. That really works. But it's a hassle because you have to leave everything out on the table, and have your gas shut off. But they do die. Try to do a massive cleaning of your apartment with plenty of vineger and mint essential oils. Vinegar kills germs and so does mint and tea tree essential oils. Guest guest Posted February 16, 2005 Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 You see them in the kitchen and bathroom because the main thing that roaches MUST have is water and those 2 places are the most common for water sources in your home. I think the most natural way that I have found (sorry for butting in here...LOL) is Cedar chips. Place a few hands-full under your sinks. It wouldnt hurt to put them under your beds and couch too but maily where you see them the most. Something about the cedar repels them. I would put new chips down about evey 2 months or so.
