Guest guest
USES FOR OLD SPICE JARS (or old film containers, or baby food jars) *I have a spice jar I keep toothpicks in; because it has a good lid, the toothpicks don't get scattered everywhere when the jar is knocked over. *If you make coloured sugar for baking, you could keep it in the jars. *If you have a picnic basket, you could use them for small amounts of condiments. *If you go camping, you could keep matches dry in them *If you keep seeds from your garden from year to year, you could store them in these to keep moisture out (making sure, of course, that the seeds are dry to begin with). *If you have small seeds to sow, you could mix the seeds with sand in a spice jar, and it would sprinkle more evenly than only seed. (Foxglove seed, for example, is practically dust). *If you do crafts, you could use them to sort materials (beads, embroidery threads, needles, buttons, glitter, rhinestones...) *If you don't do crafts, you could donate the jars to a nursing home or school that does *Close tightly and use as bathtub floaties for kids (or for yourself, why should kids have all the fun?) *Carve a design out of Fun Foam and glue to the bottom of the jar to use as a rubber stamp (or glue the foam to the lid, and have interchangeable lids for one jar handle) *Fill with varying amounts of water and blow across the top for music *Put the lids upside down under sharp furniture legs to make them slide instead of gouge the floor *Fill with coloured water and look through to see what the world looks like all blue/green/pink/orange *Fill with soapy water and use a pipe cleaner to make your own bubble wand and bubbles *Make a hole in the bottom, poke a rope through, knot the end of the rope, and use as jump rope handles *Use for small amounts of shampoo, lotion, whatever while traveling *Keep a little of that paint you just used, for touch-ups *Give to kids to keep treasures in *Bury treasures in them and leave buried in the sand at the beach or playground for some sand castle builder to discover *Give to kids to play with in the sandbox *Give to schools/daycares for their play kitchens or stacking/counting games *Use as barstools for Barbie dolls (Or cut to appropriate height and leave a " back " , then stuff full of fabric to make a shorter, regular shaped doll chair) *When you have to carry heavy plastic grocery bags, loop the bag handle over the spice jar and hold onto the spice jar instead of the skinny, circulation challenging bag handles *Fill with lead shot (fishing) and use as small dumbells *Use as a buoy or bobber *Use to transport bait to the fishing hole *Put a message inside and tie to the string of a helium balloon or a kite, and let it fly (Keeping in mind environmental hazards like latex balloons; I think mylar ones are OK but I'm not sure what's P.C.) *Fill with supersaturated sugar water, dangle in a string, and watch rock candy happen *Thread some needles with various colours, poke each needle through a piece of paper, wrap the thread around and around the paper to keep it from tangling, keep these and a few buttons and safety pins in the jar, and you have a small sewing kit for purse or car. Scissors? What scissors? Clip those threads with your teeth. *Keep a few crayons in them in the car with a small notebook for traveling kids. If the crayons melt in the heat of the car, at least they'll be contained. And, if all else, fails, mail something fun to someone using the spice jar as an envelope!
