Guest guest
Hi All, Im looking for a natural mosquito repellent to use in South Florida while orchid hunting in the Fakahatchee Strand...They are really awful there. I went several years ago and used a store bought repellent and it did not work....The mosquitos there will literally attack through your clothing. While I am asking....does anyone know of an alligator repellent? LOL....... Thank you in advance for any help with this, Tammy
Guest guest
Hi Tammy, Wow! I know when I was as Ft. Polk LA, the mosquitoes seemed to be big enough to carry you away but since then the most I have had to deal with are the ones here in SE Pennsylvania and Southern NJ. Not as big but relentless and so many. The insect repellent we developed last year really works for us. If I go out into the garden without it I am covered with Mosquitoes within seconds as I am a natural magnet for them. It would be interesting to see if it works in the environment you describe below. You can go to our web site and check it out at http://www.ancienthealingoils.com/html/blends.html All the best, John John J. Guest guest
Alligator repellant. Take an unloved, annoying pet, or boyfriend, or relative... That usually works... Although you might get in trouble for feedin' the things. Take it from me. I could have taken a few of any of the above with me to Louisianna when I went and kept lots of agigators away. Guest guest
I just read somewhere to take a Basil Leaf or Leaves, crush them and rub them where skin is exposed. I live in Texas. I took a leaf, rubbed it on my legs and arms and did not get bitten. Hope this helps someone else. I love the smell of Basil so this was great for me. It lasts quite a while. I think they should be our state bird. What we are using right now is essential oils in water. You do have to shake before spraying because the oils separate out. We are using Cinnamon leaf; eucalyptus, blue gum; Peppermint; and lemon tea tree. In a sprayer that holds a little under a quart we mix up ten to twenty drops of each oil. It's been working on our horses and us. My husband was out working and got attacked by the ant type wasps. Those are the ones that build in moss and he must have disturbed their nest. They climb into your clothes before biting. Bad buggers. Anyway he started getting bit all inside his shirt and he was on the golf cart that had the mosquito spray mix and stripped out of his shirt and sprayed himself. The bites stopped immediately. Hope it helps. Dianne PS if someone find that gator repellent I would love to have it.
Guest guest
Florida and I know exactly what you mean > about the mosquitos. I think they should be our state bird. > ROFL!!! I lived in Fla and that is funny. My mom and I used cukes for quite a long time, we juiced them. We even got fancy and mixed other things healthy for your skin in it. We were the only ones not swatting at bugs. Took me a while to figure out why that was as I had made a health juice for skin for my mom originally, not a bug spray. We both tried it just before an outside gathering. We didn't notice not getting bit until the next day when again we were the only ones not swatting. Wouldn't keep for longer than three or four days though. I tried researching how to preseve the cuke juice but to no avail. Maybe freezing it in cubes, not real convenient. Not sure how it would work on bionic -pick- you- up- and- cart- you- off- bugs though. Now, I juice garlic and drink it...phew hot! It is so good for you AND it keeps the bugs away too. I put raw apple cider vinegar in my dogs, ferret, rabbit, birds ect... water along with their clay and have recommended raw apple cider vinegar in horse water also to everyone I know with them. No complaints so far. Helps keep them wormed too along with the DE. Heartworm is huge in the southern states from the mosquitoe and although rare people CAN get them along with other nasties mosquitoes carry. Clay works for bugs on the garden, wonder if it would if it would suffocate them if rubbed on the skin. I rub in on sometimes anyway because it blocks radiation from penatrating through the skin.....great sun screen, skin barrier and deorderant. I wonder if it would clog up the skeeters hose? Here is another tib bit, I use clay paste on all bites it pulls everything out quick, never to itch, swell, bleed, infect again. It stops pain quicklt too. My daughter doesn't use bandades anymore, she grabs for the clay I have already mixed up. They say you can mix clay with essensial oils, but I have not yet tried that. I am just a dirt lovin feind I guess. LOL bt' " Those who wish to be ignorant and free, believe in something that never was and never shall be. " - Thomas Jefferson > nest. Guest guest
Hi Jerry: I planted basil in our back garden this year instead of out front or down the side of the house and we have absolutely NO mosquitos at all. I'll be planting it all over the place next year but for now, the dogs who have a play yard right next to the fenced garden are suffering no mosquito bites whatsoever, even with us hosing down their area to keep it clean. I'll never be without it again. Jenn in Oregon , Jjmcgee99 wrote: > > I just read somewhere to take a Basil Leaf or Leaves, crush them and rub > them where skin is exposed. I live in Texas. Guest guest
What kind of clay are you using for this ? I would love to try that too. Guest guest
I live in Louisiana. Love to fish, went through about 11 corks last weekend cause the baby gator just loved them for some reason. The baby I tolerated, was only about 4 feet long, but when momma came out to visit, I figured the fish would be there next time. Packed up and left. Guest guest
Hi, I am not sure which one you meant, for the plants Kaolin is very popular. It also works for bleaching the skin and for deorderant. You can purchase Surround which is already mixed for gardens, you just add water. I use all/any of the bentonites for bug bites. All of them draw or pull toxins from the body. You can remove up to three years of toxins out of your body by soaking in the clay bath. The spa's in France, wrap people in french green clay (always looked like seaweed to me). The bentonites are called, sodium bentonite, calcium bentonite, french green clay, terramin (red desert clay) and I use them all. Two of those are an off white color, one is green and one is red, all three can stain cloth. So, I prefer the off white ones, but will use the closest one to me. Not a problem, bt , " jennsbellamiaskin " <jennsbellamiaskin wrote: > > What kind of clay are you using for this ?
