Guest guest
Energy Saving Tips DO TOUCH THAT DIAL. Adjust thermostats to a more economical setting when you go to bed or leave for work. Better yet, invest in a timed- setback thermostat that will remember to reset the temperature no matter how hectic your schedule. CLEAN OR REPLACE FILTERS. Clogged filters greatly reduce the efficiency of furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps; they can also cause equipment to break down permanently. WINTERIZE ROOM AIR CONDITIONERS. Remove the unit's decorative front, cut a block of foam insulation to snugly fit into the cool air outlet and stuff the foam in place. Outside, install a cover. TURN YOUR WATER HEATER DOWN TO " WARM " (120F). This saves energy and prevents scalding. Also if your heater is located in an unheated space, bundle it up with an insulating jacket. SWITCH ON ENERGY-SAVING SETTINGS ON APPLIANCES. Most newer refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers let you reduce the energy they consume. REPLACE INEFFICIENT APPLIANCES. You will be dollar-wise if you replace an old appliance, especially a refrigerator, with a top efficiency model. REPLACE INCANDESCENT LIGHTBULBS WITH COMPACT FLUORESCENTS. These use about 75% less electricity and still have a warm glow. Best targets are 60-watt to 100-watt bulbs that are used several hours a day. ~*~
