Our bodies do not readily process heavy metals and those can become toxic in our bodies if ingested in high amounts. Yes our bodies need TRACE amounts of some metals but not all. The amount of powder one might put into a liquid would be too easy to over do when the phrase " TRACE amounts " is being used. <<<is this safe ? not safe ? >>> One must exercise caution when using any gemstone for making elixirs regardless of what form the gemstone is in (whole or powdered). If the alternate method is recommended then the alternate method is what one should practice. Some of our crystals friends do have toxic chemicals in them or ones that in high concentration in our bodies do harm instead of heal. So when in doubt (if you don't know for certain and until you do), it would be better to use the alternate method for charging your water. Better to " err " on the side of caution then to err on the side that makes you sick instead. <<<<is this a normal and safe method of gemstone elixir creation ? " In the 13th and 14th centuries, gemstone elixirs were made from water and powdered gemstones and prescribed for a variety of ailments to the nobles and those otherwise able to afford them. After losing their popularity in the later centuries, they were reborn in the new age movements of the 1960s and 1970s. All that being said, I have used powdered selenite mixed in with incense on a charcoal for it's cleansing properties. Again this is not something you would do with say tiger's eyes that has natural asbestos in it Blessings to your day all.
