Guest guest
Dear All, There has been a discussion of late about what a Shiva-linga is supposed to be. Many replies and explanations have been given here by our members, and i would like to add to that, including a write which I found on the net. According to Hindu tradition, there is a Trinity of Gods : Brahma - the Creator, Vishnu - the preservor and Shiva - the Destroyer. According to mythology, the Gods visited Shiva and were to wait, since He was then engaged in sex-play with His Consort - Paravati. Havaing made to wait for a pretty long time while Shiva was thus engaged, they cursedd Him saying that hecncefort He will be worshiped by humans in the shape of the Linga, the upright part representing His phalus, while the central part represents the vulva of His consort. This is the story, which I believe, is prevalent amongst Hindus.. However, I have found another explanation on the net and I give the link for all to see : www.mahashivratri.org/shiva-linga.html www.vedanet.com/index2.php?option=com_content & do_pdf=1 & id=107 These links explain the significance of the Shiva -lingams from the Tantric point of view also. Guest guest
You guys (gals) may like that...but it has nothing to do with Shiva Lingams! :-) By the way.. Shiva Lingams are not egg shaped...and egg has one end larger than the other... and lingams are not shaped that way. I may offend someone here... or more than one. It has been my experience that what the " Spiritual Teacher " here is based on her own interpretation based on what she wanted to experience. I mean.. who doesn't want Universal love with no end and no beginning... but it doesn't come come from the Shiva Lingham! Guest guest
Thank You Naresh for the information you have shared here. Great addresses posted...enjoyed. This information is consistent with what I was taught some 20 plus years ago when Shiva Lingas were making their way to the west and becoming popular. And Tarika I like your teachers explanation as well. But this brings up an interesting point to be made in regards to tradition and new interpretations. And our love of crystals and crystal healing is the perfect field for this observation. The reason this story is handed down from Hindu teachings and mythology is to represent the cultural needs at the time and for all time memorial perhaps, like the Christian, Judaic and Muslim teachings, and to give us the parables we need to live our lives. These teachings hold the energy of their times and we should be mindful when re-interpreting. And yet on the other-hand there is nothing wrong with re-naming the energies of a stone to reflect our current philosophies or wisdom attained. We do that with baptism and spiritual disciplines and other assorted ceremonies. I am Dawn - who always seems to have much to say-Silver. In the crystal healing world many stones are renamed from their original mineralogical categories and classifications. This has become a sense of ridicule and confusion to many geologists. I know as I am on sites which do not take the work we do serious because of this tendency to rename things with names we deem spiritual and holy......everything becomes a shamans stone, sacred or angelic. This is our focus and it works for us. But I am sure you can see the humor when someone posts a stone looking for identification and say they were told it was a celestial bringer of hope.....when to the mineral collector it was a 50 cent piece of dyed howlite. We live in different and the same worlds. So it is with the original teachings. And yet, while we are often viewing the same thing we have different words to describe what we see. My only thouhgt is again be mindful of the original location of the stone as they are keepers of the original vibration as well. Stones and jewels are energy keepers. The Shiva Lingham holds the original energies that formed them in the location of their birth. They were believed to be seeds of cosmic consciousness there in kinetic potential to be birthed. The Shiva and the Shakti can represent the yin and the yang forces of the cosmos coming together to birth a new energy (soul force).....an individual, a creative gift....yet part of the whole tapestry of the divine. And keep in mind as we tell our version of the story that it is entirely possible and likely that we bring back the memory from our own Akashic Records and were likely there at the time the stories were originally told....and it is part of our own collective memory. And likely our new version to tell is updated to the consciousness we now carry. So speaking of Akashic Records...which are our own personal records of all time and space, my good friend Linda Howe has just released on Sounds True label, a six CD tape set and book on how to read the Akashic Records. It just hit the market a few weeks back and is selling at a wonderful speed. If anyone is interesting in learning to read the records for themselves, family and our as a profession I encourage you to check out her work. She is a brilliant gifted author and conscious channel. Enjoy your day in whichever part of the world you dwell, Dawn Silver Jewels of the Lotus Gemstone Oracle --- On Mon, 4/13/09, Lahna Harris <peacedove1133 wrote: Lahna Harris <peacedove1133 Re: [CrystalHW] Shiva-lingas Monday, April 13, 2009, 9:33 PM I like the teacher's point of view, too! --- On Mon, 4/13/09, Adriana <garden_of_dreams8@ > wrote: Adriana <garden_of_dreams8@ > Re: [CrystalHW] Shiva-lingas CrystalHealing- workshop Monday, April 13, 2009, 5:17 PM Dear Naresh from my spiritual teacher's point of view ( she's in India ) and mine now according to her explanation, Shiva Linga in a EGG shape) represents Universal Love , with no begining and no end. kind of I like this version.
