Guest guest
Hi all, I have attached a photo in the photos file of a purple crystal on a stand and I was wondering if someone could explain it's changing colour. I have had this crystal for at least 2 years and it has always remained purple (my favourite colour). Last night when I got home from my NZ trip to visit my sick father, I sat down at my desk to check emails. I noticed that the crystal was a light blue colour - like the lovely teal blue you see in the shallow waters at the beach. I showed everyone here and commented how weird it was that it was blue and not purple. They all agreed it was definately a light teal blue colour. It stayed that colour the whole time I was up. This morning when I got up and looked at it it was purple again, and has remained purple all day. It is such a strange thing to have happened so I thought I would ask the group for any explanations you may have - I am only just learning about crystals and would love to get an understanding of what happened here as it has never happened before. I look forward to your comments, I hope you can access the photo in the photo file. Many thanks Amanda

You can do an ebay search for more example with the search phrase " diamond paperweight " . _http://shop.ebay.com/items/__diamond-paperweight_W0QQ_nkwZdiamondQ20paperweig htQ20QQ_cqrZtrueQQ_nkwuscZdiamonQQ_nkwuscZpaperweight?_rdc=1_ (http://shop.ebay.com/items/__diamond-paperweight_W0QQ_nkwZdiamondQ20paperweight\ Q20QQ_cqrZtrue QQ_nkwuscZdiamonQQ_nkwuscZpaperweight?_rdc=1) Was this being sold as some form of crystal by the shop you purchased it from or simply being called a crystal? The color difference could be a matter of the lighting at the given time of day and how light refracts through the facets and also how colors from around and object can affect the appearance of the color. The colors I see in the photo you posted are pinks, purples and blues, I do not see any green-blues (teal) as you mentioned. Some of the colors I can tell are merely being created from reflection of what is around the piece. Some natural crystals however can change colors due to where they are being displayed/kept. SOME (not all) Amethyst and Rose Quartz can fade being in direct sunlight for too long. while others won't change color at all. Citrine is created when Amethyst is " baked " (extreme temperature change) whether it is done naturally by mother earth or by human intervention. Ametrine is a beautiful crystal that displays both the Amethyst coloration and the Citrine in the same piece. _http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ametrine_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ametrine) Blessings to your day all.
