The muscles should normally knit back together postpartum, but may not do so in women who gain a lot of weight during pregnancy, or who have weak abdominal muscles. 3 questions: How long postpartum is she? How much weight did she gain during pregnancy? How big was the baby? Exercises and surgery are the probably best options. Given the nature of the problem, it seems unlikely that herbs could cure it, but it would be very interesting if anyone has successful experience, or even if they've tried and failed. The issue is getting the muscles that are normally separated in pregnancy, but in this case have not knitted back together, to do so. I know of a surgeon in NY who puts in a mesh to prevent extrusion of the intestine -- I'm told it's a simple outpatient procedure. Guest guest
I haven't treated this type of condition, although I think it is probably more common than people think. I had a visiting patient from N.Y. who had an abdomen like this since childbirth 9 years ago, with no muscle tone, severely bloated, overweight. I wonder if this happened to her. This would probably be in the realm of tui shan, or bulging mounting disorder. I would consider using medicinals to raise clear yang, as the spleen qi is clearly weakened, such as huang qi, sheng ma, and perhaps chai hu (from bu zhong yi qi tang), along with medicinals to warm the liver channel, such as xiao hui xiang, and possibly wu yao. This all, of course, would depend on your pattern diagnosis, tongue and pulse. This could be combined with Rory's suggestion of a mesh 'implant', depending on the severity of the condition. Guest guest
I consulted with Dr. Bo-yin Li (I think it is the same one, Bo-in Lee?) in the late 1970's. He was already working with cancer patients at that point. I remember him as being rather eclectic, combining nine-star qi astrology with macrobiotics, plus Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture. A very interesting man, but he does have long experience with cancer patients, focusing on healthy life-style. Nice to hear he is still in practice. Guest guest
My NY office location is on the same floor with Maternal Fitness, a pregnancy and post-partum education and exercise center. Diastasis is extremely common. While the case you describe seems extreme, many women with diastasis of 10 finger-widths have been resolved with proper breathing exercises and strengthening up the kidneys and middle burner. MaternalFitness.com has information on the breathing exercises. The phone number there is 212-353-1947. They sell tapes, videos, etc. describing the exercise. , Rory Kerr <rorykerr@w...> wrote: > At 6:13 AM -0500 12/13/02, Sharon Weizenbaum wrote: > >1) I have a patient whose abdominal wall split during pregnancy from her > >umbilicus to about CV 13. Guest guest
I had three misses first - turns out we had an 'abo incompatiability' - husband a positive - i was o positive - some weird factor - supposed to only happen in one of of four pregnancies if you have this - it happened to me five out of five. might be worth asking about a-b-o incompatabilty just in case? Guest guest
Greetings Again! First off I LOVE this group, and value all the knowledge that I have gained since I began. With that being said... I am trying to return to my old self. Prior to my children and marriage, I had many things that were very important to me. One I had my children and got married all of my time and focus was spent on them and I let myself and the things that were impoartant to me subside. Now that my children are a little older and more self suffient and my husband is being so supportive, I am looking to dig me up again. I am very spiritual by background, I inherited alot of abilities of my grandfather. I have a strong belief in many cultures and ways of following my third eye. I used to be a vegitatrian for 11 years and once I gave birth to my first daughter I wanted her to get all the nutrients from breast feeding that I couldn't provive due to my own diet. Now 5 years later I am soul seraching to restore me. So where I need help... I need to know if there is anything out there (crystals, herbs, elixers, thought, etc) that will help me become more centered in finding my way. I read a FANTASTIC book that started my journey and now I'm ready to make the life change. Just as FYI, I'm not looking for any solicitaions, just true believers that really have some insight to what I'm going through. Thank You, Aja
Guest guest
Good Morning Aja, Well for starts let crystal healing and collecting be a journey. Look for pieces that speak to you and you will enjoy having them around for a long time....they will have immeasurable value. And sometimes instead of finding the answers in a book...trust your intuition and then compare with other wisdom. You will have many many aha's. Go to a rock shop or rock show in your area....that is always amazing. Learn the basic rules...and there are few....for clearing, sending energy and other healings...... This site has many great healers...and Peggy, the site founder and moderator, has records stored in her archives that will teach you more than most books. As for herbs and things...that may need to be specific for your body type....you may want to know your blood type...have a vedic or chinese pulse diagnosis done and then work with those recommendations. You are very much an individual. So enjoy your journey and keep us posted.
