I think that each elder has it's own " spirit " -- there certainly seems to be alot of information on physcial, emotional, and spirit of elders ..so wouldn't the essense be the true spirit (direct line so to speak).. not a watered down version (no pun intended). It also seems to be that some information suggests specific placments on the body which aren't always doable. Anyhow.... I realize that they are only suggestions and the elders know where they want to be or not be in some cases. I have found thatI am fed and nourished (body, mind spirit, emotions) where I am in most need, where or how this is most needed whether it is carried,placed on, worn, misted or drank. I also feel that the essences I have been gifted -- only flower to date--seemed to work at a different vbibration with my system... humm..I am not sure if I can explain it any more right now. I think about how much our bodies are made up of water.. how all our functions are nourished and bathed in solutions.. so why wouldn't it make sense that essences when prepared with pure light, intentions, love , joy and blessings not work in the body at perhaps a different vibration? The Elders are not soaked in the water nor are they put out in sunlight in the usual way but their signature is directed into the water with love and respect. All the spirits in this way are honoured including the water spirits.
