Durga Puja Recipes Any festival in India is incomplete without food. Whenever we talk of festival we think of the special dishes prepared for the occasion. Festival cooking is a part of all celebration. Durga Puja is also one of the festivals where special emphasis on sweets are given. Other than sweets different kinds of other dishes are also prepared. This festival is mainly celebrated in the West Bengal, which is famous for sweets. Durga Puja is the festival of fun and feasting. It is the time when people have the liberty to eat what ever they like. Different kinds of sweets are available in the market. You can choose from a wide variety of range. Other than sweets you can make various other items at home, which are easy to cook and very delicious to eat. Bengalis are known for their delicious delicacies. Here are list of some traditional delicacies, which will make your celebration all the more exciting and happening.These are some of the recipes, which you can try: Aloo Posto Recipe Aloo Posto Recipe(potato in poppy seed) Ingredients: 1 Kilo Potatoes 1 cup Oil (mustard oil) ½ teaspoon black cumin seed 2 Bay leafs 3 Dry red chilies 3 Green chilies 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder Grind to paste 2 Tbsp Poppy seeds with Salt To taste Method: Boil, peel and cut the potatoes into thick cubes. Heat the oil. First fry the bay leafs, black cumin seed and dry chillies in oil mix the ground paste with 1 Tbsp of water. Then add the potatoes and fry on low heat, stirring all the while. Add one-teaspoon sugar and ghee. Serve it hot with steam rice. Chola Dal Recipe Chola Dal Recipe Ingredients: 1-cup Split Bengal gram 1/4 cup Turmeric powder 2 Dry red chilies 3 Cloves 2 Cinnamon sticks 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds 1 inch Ginger 2 Green chilies 3 tsp Oil 1 tbsp Grated fresh coconut 1 tsp Sugar Salt To taste Method: Soak the dal in water for one hour. Pressue cook the dal with cloves, cinnamon sticks, turmeric powder, sugar, cardamom powder and salt. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add the red chilies, chopped green chilies and ginger. Fry for 2-3 minutes. Add the seasonings to the boiled dal and mix well. Cook for another 10 minutes.
