Welcome to theThe Pamela's Products Newsletter!Vol. 2, Issue #9, September 2009If you are having trouble seeing this newsletter, please Back to School...Summer is drawing to a close and school is starting up once again. Meal planning takes on a new dimension when it comes to packing the brown bag for the kids as you scoot them out the door. But don't forget that everyone deserves to enjoy their lunch, so along with some fresh fruit, carrot sticks and a thermos of your favorite beverage remember to include a delicious sandwich and cookies. This is now incredibly easy even for those of us living gluten-free. Make your favorite sandwich with one of Pamela's easy to bake breads such as Pamela's Amazing Bread, or bread by hand, or enjoy a sub-style sandwich with Pamela's Soft Baguette Loaf or Crispy French Bread. The best part is that these breads taste delicious and look like wheat bread, so none of the kids at school will even notice that your gluten-free child's food is different.College can be a bit more complex than simply packing a lunchbox. There are some great articles about making a safe, gluten-free transition into life on campus. We enjoyed reading what GlutenFreeda had to write (and were honored to be mentioned!), check out their College Living article. The latest in gluten-free researchWe were recently sent a copy of the book "The Gluten Effect" and were stunned by the information the Drs. Vikki & Richard Petersen revealed. Here are four amazing points from Dr. Vikki Petersen:It's estimated that 1% of the population suffers from celiac disease while 40% suffers from gluten sensitivity. Recently it was recommended that all IBS sufferers get tested for gluten sensitivity. Patients with IBS are often told that there is no cure. Millions are suffering with this and having such a compromised small intestine truly prevents optimal health from occurring. After the digestive system, the second most common system to be affected by gluten sensitivity is the nervous system. Gluten is not a local problem but very much systemic. Gluten Intolerance is an autoimmune disease and if a person has relatives with any autoimmune diseases, they are 8 - 15 times more likely to get celiac disease (or gluten sensitivity). This stunning book will truly shock you, and while you probably already know the devastation gluten can cause, you will no doubt learn some new data in this very informative book. If you attended the Gluten-Free Cooking Expo a few weeks ago, you would have had the opportunity to win one of these books, along with a small Pamela's care package. But do not fret, there are many more chances to win this book and meet Marion all at the same time. Keep an eye on Marion's schedule for more info on where she'll be and join her at the DAN Conference in Dallas in October for your next chance to win a copy of "The Gluten Effect".Giveaways and updatesWe are so excited to announce that GoDairyFree.org and OneFrugalFoodie.com are offering a joint giveaway of Pamela's Products! Check out the listing, review and recipes. Take a moment to send a comment and maybe you will win the huge prize package.Last month we told you about the latest release of Let's Eat Out! by Kim Koeller and Robert La France. First, we'd like to congratulate the five lucky winners who's names were drawn at random to win a copy of the book and the pocket passports. We also want to let you know that the people at Gluten Free Passport have introduced their "Eating Out" app for the iPhone and iPod touch. This customizable tool can help decipher menu choices and find the right foods for you. Learn more at the Gluten Free Passport website.Meet Marion~Hi everyone. Just back a week from Chicago after attending the GF Cooking Expo. The show was very successful and busy due to the tireless efforts of our Miss Jennifer Cafferty. A big shout out to her for the education and information she provided for those attending the seminars and classes. Pamela's Cheesecake was the buzz of the event and was very well received by all who attended – including volunteers and other vendors! (A few, there will be no mention of names, thank you very much, passed by more than once!!) People could not get enough of the Pamela's New York Cheesecake sweetened with agave – a huge talking point among the participants and store owners. One woman said she had not been able to eat cheesecake for TWELVE years!!! That is just not right – but our Pamela came to the rescue once again. Thanks Miss P!Oh, oh, oh... new invention!!!... Coconut Cupcakes... no, they are not new – BUT – Coconut Cupcakes frosted with Pamela's Dark Chocolate Frosting, shove their little frosted heads into the shredded coconut and well, they tasted like... I don’t like to mention names (see above), but they were “Mounds” of fun to eat!!! The group that got to sample them at the GF Cooking Expo all agreed that this combo should join the menu of the “Traveling Cupcake Show”. So be it – the tribe has spoken! My next event is the Gluten Free Culinary Summit in Hyde Park, NY on September 12th and 13th. This is a lovely two day seminar presented by Suzanne Bowland of GF Culinary Productions, Inc., being held at The Culinary Institute of America. The culinary students will be creating delicious, mouth-watering recipes using Pamela's Products mixes. Last year I had the absolute pleasure of being one of the first to inhale the Crème de Menthe Brownies made from Pamela's Brownie Mix. So, so, so fabulous! If you are lucky enough to be attending this event, a little side note – yes, there really is a Pamela!! (….that’s all I’m saying……)Ok, stop reading and go bake something Pamela's!! It's a milestone moment in the year and I hope you'll take some time to honor the transition from summer to fall. Personally, a cup of tea with a Pamela's biscotti or Chunky Chocolate Chip Cookie provides the perfect accompaniment for a moment of reflection.I've tried something new this month, we'll be drawing for the the free product giveaway. It seemed more fair and calmer for those who enjoy taking the time to read the whole newsletter before they respond, and we need more calm these days.
