Guest guest
Dear Friends, It is not so easy to debate on the question of supplements. Nowadays mothers, despite all of our education and awareness sessions are giving baby foods to children. Why are they doing this? Because over the years they have been taught that everything natural is bad. It is only branded products that have value. While attending a seminar on food issues I came to know than an ICDS study shows that normal breast feed and usual food is almost equivalent to enriched food or whatsoever. I raised the issue of providing food vs problems with digestion and assimilation. The experts there said this was indeed the case. The problems with digestion and assimilation have to be addressed first. Then the children should be given traditional food. I took the names of conditions, anorexia and pica. Give the worlds best brand of supplements but yet these children will head for malnourishment and associated problems. The experts said this could be genetic. I said stop medicating and vaccinating children and maybe we could see some results. After this we have to take the case of presence of toxins in breast milk and the placental fluids. Then get rid of poisonous chemicals and toxins in the environment and in our food. After all this is done maybe we will see a slow reversal of the malnutrition related problems. You cannot and should not go in for instant remedies. Please see the whole and only then you may be able to lower IMR and malnutrition. I did not get any claps but from the eyes of the ladies present I could make out that the message had reached some hearts. On behalf of my organisation I said that locally produced traditional and culturally appropriate safe food was needed. The children also need to be freed from the toxic overload they receive as the first gift from our civillised society. Regards, Jagannath.
