The news of the revival of Parliamentary Farmers' Forum appeared in leading English and Hindi dailies and also in other regional language newspaers of the country Dr KRISHAN BIR CHAUDHARYPresidentBharatiya Krishak Samaj (Indian Farmers' Organisation)New Delhi, INDIA-- Indian Farmers Pin Hopes on Revived Parliamentary Farmers' Forum New Delhi, July 2, 2009: India’s oldest and largest farmers’ organization, Bharatiya Krishak Samaj took the initiative to persuade some Members of Parliament (MPs) of the newly elected 15th Lok Sabha (lower House) to revive the Parliamentary Farmers’ Forum to discuss and address various issues confronting the Indian farmers.The MPs cutting across political party barriers assured to help Indian farmers on all issues confronting their income and livelihood security and as well as country’s food security and in the problems being faced by them and likely to be faced by them on account of WTO negotiations.Bharatiya Krishak Samaj felicitated the MPs at a special function in the evening at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC), 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, The function was attended by 22 MPs, over 10 journalists and farmers’ representatives from different parts of the country. Some senior journalist were also felicitated on the occasion.“The time-tested India-Russia relations culminating into strategic partnership is a role model in international relationsâ€, said Mr. Harish Rawat, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Government of India. Underlining the crucial role of farmers in the agricultural sector, the backbone of our country’s economy, the Union Minister Mr. Harish Rawat laid deep stress on the revival of the Parliamentary Farmers’ Forum and the monthly meetings to bring into the focus the urgent needs of the farmers’ community keeping in view the imperative of improving their standard of life. The government policy should fit in with this objective, and the farmers’ voice should echo in the Parliament, he added. In his formal welcome address, Dr. Krishan Bir Chaudhary, President, Bharatiya Krishak Samaj, invited the attention of all those concerned, cutting across political party barriers to pursue in their strenuous efforts for addressing the concerns of farmers.Former Governor and Union minister, Dr. Bhisham Narayan Singh hailed the significant contributions made by Indian farmers with an emphatic note on the need of improving the standard of their life. Wishing the newly elected MPs, he made a clarion call on utilizing all efforts and resources within their power to take proper care of the farmers’ community.Some other MPs who were felicitated on the occasion were Dr. Rattan Singh Ajnala (Akali Dal-Punjab), Dr. T. Menya (Congress Party-Manipur), Mr. Sailendra Kumar (Samajvadi Party-U.P), Pramod Panda (Communist Party of India, West Bengal), Dr. Bhola Singh (Bharatiya Janata party—Bihar), Mr. Om Prakash Yadav, (Independent—Bihar), Rajkumari Ratna Singh (Congress Party—U.P.), Mr. Harimanji (Bharatiya Janata Party—Bihar), Mr. Biswajit Daimary (BPF Party—Assam), Mr. Suresh Angadi (Bharatiya Janata Party-Karnataka) and Mr. Ramesh Katti (Bharatiya Janata Party—Karnataka). The MPs acknowledged the reception accorded to them. A prominent farmer leader, Mr. Atul Kumar Anjan, General Secretary, Communist Party of India lauded the noble gesture of Bharatiya Krishak Samaj in felicitating the MPs to whom the farmers’ community pins much hope.Congratulating the new MPs and wishing all success in their endeavours, Mr. Gadzhi M. Akhmedov, Deputy Director, RCSC, noted that in this moment of glory his government and the people of Russia share the same feeling of pride in being the part and parcel of parliamentary democracy to which our both countries give great emphasis. Pointing out that parliament has a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations, Mr. Akhmedov noted that the exchange of delegations between Russian Dumas and Indian Parliament in the past had immensely contributed to the strengthening of bilateral ties. With reference to the Year of Youth in Russia, he stressed on the need of involving the youth in the democratic process and restore the trust of the people in the efficiency of parliamentary democracy.
