Well... I will try to keep it on topic, heh

I am the contracted Wicca Chaplain for the Pacific Region of Corrections

Canada.

I visit the institutions in my region that request a Wiccan

representative, currently that's six different institutions per month.

Although I am labeled in the system as Wiccan, I am basically the

catch-all chaplain for alternative faiths - everything from Pagan to New

Age spirituality, and points in between... we even have regulars from

other Paths, Buddhists and Native Spirituality, but sometimes some

open-minded Christians and Muslims drop in, though not for the religious

" services " .

At each visit we hold Circle, do ritual, discuss pertinent topics, etc.

There are very stringent rules on what is allowed in prison - naturally

- but one of the things I've managed to maintain is the " Rock Bag " .

This is a special bag I've made that opens into a bowl shape - basically

a circle with a draw string closure around the perimeter. In it is a

collection of crystals and stones, few ever larger than pebble size so

as to meet security standards. I've bought a lot of them, gathered more

on my daily walks, been given some too, and had some added by the folk

in there too that they have found or have " outgrown " .

The bag is passed around the circle at each visit and if there is

something (or more than one something) that the person feels drawn to,

they are free to take it, and if they have something they are ready to

pass on, they drop it in the bag.

It started out as rocks, but has grown to include seashells, feathers,

bits of wood, seeds, all sorts of bitty stuff.

The rock bag has become a favourite, on the few times I wasn't able to

take it in for some reason, I've had people give me items that they had

brought to put into the bag, so that I can put them in when I get home!

I also take in Judy Hall's 'Crystal Bible' - because it's pretty decent,

has great pics, and is small and *light-weight* (comparatively speaking,

heh).

Buying stones for these guys can get pretty expensive, so whatever ends

up in the bag is what the Universe sends me, pretty much. (My dig at

rock sellers wasn't just 'cause I can't afford some specimens for my own

use, I assure you! heh)

I have been gifted (or given whole-sale pricing, which sort of amounts

to the same thing) itty bitty Tibetan quartz points (I had to enforce a

limit on those ones, heh) rose quartz, itty bitty kyanite slivers, blue

chalcedony, smoky quartz and a fair bit of agate.

My own funds are limited, so sometimes the bag gets pretty lean and

donations are always gratefully received -- these people have no real

access to obtaining them any other way... I think it's very interesting

what the Universe deems necessary - or, if you will, which stones

*choose* - to go into prison. I scour 2nd hand stores for old jewelry

and such, amazing what comes to me sometimes!

I have learned to take what is offered and bow to the will of the Stone

People rather than search out specifically for what *I* think is " best "

-- although, it was in a quest for quartz points (the most often asked

for stone) that I was led to a shop that practically gave me enough

Tibetan points, each no bigger than my baby finger nail, for most of

" my " guys!

Part of each visit is discussing the stones, sometimes the stones chosen

and sometimes a stone from the book or otherwise come to their

attention... or mine.

It's interesting, because the information that surfaces is *always* -

never failed - needed by at least one person there, they have an issue

they are working on or a problem that the Stone People are willing to

help them with.

Sometimes we will do psychometry with a specific stone, so that these

people are able to open their senses to the different energies.

And, when the rock bag is making it's rounds... the energies in the

group are almost guaranteed to be... at ease.

So there ya go... a bit about my 'work' and a bit about how crystals are

making their way to people who need, benefit from their company.

<smile>

Only kinda sideways off-topic for this group.

;)

Blessings,

Kathleen

Kathleen,

This is great!!! It is so cool to do that kind or work. I am a New

Thought minister

and had all sorts come to my classes.. and once a Satanist. That was

interesting.

I always taught that any path was better than no path.. and that was

one interesting

night.

Please send me your shipping address. I will start making a Prison Basket to

send to you to use.

Thanks!!!!

John, it really *is* cool!

<smile>

Very rewarding work - not in a physical or monetary sense, but

spiritually and often emotionally... my own personal growth has been

tremendous because of it, and it can be very humbling.

<smile>

I've had a few Satanists too, but they generally don't come back, heh

I think that's because what they're looking for isn't there?

True enough, it can make for interesting discussions!

I believe that everyone has the right or need to access Spirit somehow,

and their Path is the one they have to walk... who am I to say what

shoes they wear when they're walking it?

To be honest, I've never met any Satanists that stayed on that Path for

the long term, though... but I do know a few really good people who used

it as a stepping stone at some time in their past travels.

That is a very kind, generous and considerate offer, John, that I will

humbly accept.

<smile>

I will mail you off-list.

Thank you.

<smile>

Blessings,

Kathleen

I have stayed quiet on this topic, but I would like to say that I think you both

do a great service to those in prison.

Blessings to you both,

Thank you Christa, I do think I fulfill a need and that a lot of people,

and, I think society itself, benefits from the work.

.... I must admit though, I myself benefit a great deal. I've learned so

much, and have become a better person too, I think.

In a way, sharing my time and energies, knowledge and skills with these

people is " self-serving " in a roundabout way!

<smile>

Blessings,

Kathleen

Love Light and Many Blessings

I am currently doing prison work, and I think John has done it in the

past but isn't currently, although he *is* still a minister - have I got

that right, John?

I cannot say how touched I am by all of you, and your thoughtful

generosity - not just with offers to help, but just plain saying that

this is a worthwhile thing to do.

I started doing it because someone I loved and respected asked me to

help. I kept doing it because I clearly see a need and feel I can

fulfill it, and quite frankly, it is very rewarding, as I've said before.

But I meet a lot of people with different opinions on the value of the

work and recently, a lot of what feedback I've gotten - from strangers

no less - is that prisoners are coddled and should be treated like the

criminals they are.

I don't know why I am drawing that kind of feedback into my life right

now, I'm trying to figure it out, but I am very glad to get *your*

feedback to counter-balance it.

<smile>

I was going to write a lot more, but remembered this isn't the place for

that soapbox.

<smile>

Lori, thank you.

I will write you off-list with my address.

<smile>

Blessings,

Kathleen

Hi Kathleen.

After being locked up in county jail over 10 years ago, for two

months (over a fist fight that ended without even a black eye to the

victom), I had the opportunity to meet a lot of different people from

very different backgrounds. Some came from half way around the world.

I don't dwell on this experience because, bottom line, I was guilty.

I've always viewed it as a learning experience. Maybe even as a

lesson I seriously needed to open my eyes to things happening in my

life now.

However, the fact that they are locked up, whether they are inocent

or not, means they have already lost about 85 % of their rights as a

human beeing. Nuff said about that debate from me. But, there is

still one thing that is a constant: they're all still humans who

still have some basic, universal human rights. Even the inmates who

gave me problems or, went into my cell and stoled my personal

belongings that were gifts from family.

I'm very sorry for the negative feedback you recieved from some very

lost, confused and all around uninformed individuals. I can tell you,

not only from personal beliefs, but from personal experience, that

those people are talking out their butt holes. Please don't let them

get to you. Bless you for the work you do and keep it up. The world

neends more people like you. :)

Take care

Hi Ray,

Thank you for the vote of confidence, I appreciate it!

I know that what I am doing in prison is worthwhile and benefits a lot

of people besides myself and the people I come in direct contact with,

but some people are judgmental and I think that's born out of fear, a

lot of times.

I think that there isn't a soul that enters prison that isn't 'damaged

goods' to one extent or another, and that if we want a healthy society

someone has to help them heal, or heal themselves, rather.

Maybe the reason I've been getting all that negative feedback is so that

I will remember that there are hurt and damaged people on this side of

the bars too.

Anyhow, thank you for sharing, and for your support.

I appreciate it.

Blessing of Joy,

Kathleen

The most subversive act you can commit is to encourage creativity and original

thought.
