It will calm the nerves as well. The general conscensus is ice and rest at first and follow (?week or so) with warmth. What has helped me in the past for fractures....I fractured my rib in August 2007...is a Chinese linament called Zeng Gu Shui. Put it on before bed and it heals tissues...especially ligaments.....but I have used it for years for bone bruising as well. Just do not use after a hot shower. I am in Chicago and so I get it in Chinese markets.
