Guest guest
Those are amazing! In chinese medicine, we actually use gypsum powdered (it's also used to make tofu). I hope they leave them alone, they are just too fantastic to disturb. I read on National Geographic that it's usually above 130 degrees down there...yikes. No, I think all of the chambers are going to be protected. The Cave of Swords - the one I first heard about with these large crystals pales in comparison to the companion chambers that are deeper in the mine. There is now also the Crystal Cave of the Giants and another chamber called the Cave of Dreams. These are Selenite (gypsum) Crystals thus the hot environment which does not allow for humans to stay in it for very long. That is why they needed to head back and get out after only being there for 5 minutes in the video. This gives a decent history of the cave: _http://www.canyonsworldwide.com/crystals/mainframe3.html_ (http://www.canyonsworldwide.com/crystals/mainframe3.html) (this is an older article) From National Geo just last year (make sure you click the next arrows for all the pictures): _http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/04/photogalleries/giant-crystals -cave/index.html_ (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/04/photogalleries/giant-crystals-c\ ave/index.html) I hope after reading these articles you feel better about the safety of the crystals ;-) It would be an awesome place to visit in person!!!
