So your dog chooses her crystals to chew on, Renau? Great... I was

finally feeling like I had enough to start working on me, now I need a

set for my dogs - lol. Petuna, my pug, has stolen a piece of pink

petalite several times now. When I told mom, she wondered whether I

should make some sort of contraption around her neck and whichever one

she was attracted to, let her carry it around for a day or two. But

you just allow them to gently chew on them? That would make her very

happy if I allow her.

You just want to make sure it is not small enough for her to choke on. Also,

make sure you know what the MOHs hardness level is of that particular piece. As

an example, Selenite is soft and a dog could easily chew it into bits. Also

flaking or layered stones (shale as an example) would not be the best idea.

Aloha All,

As much as this discussion about crystals and animals is interesting, it

is probably still best advised to know about the toxicity levels of the minerals

before allowing an animal chew on them and possibly be ingested. Many minerals

especially in their raw state are not recommended for use in their raw state.

The properties of minerals when used ON the body or skin are effective because

of the energetic property each had that is enhanced when connecting with the

electrical system that also runs through the body. Use of minerals can at times

seem 'magical' and truly they are awesome, but they do have scientific

properties that are intrinsic to their 'beingness'. Using intuition sometimes

allows one the bypass knowing their properties, but should not allow anyone to

feel like any use is necessarily safe or non-toxic even in small quantities.

I have seen a list published here that gives information on stones that

should not be used as 'elixirs'-stones soaked in water to transfer their

energetic propertied to the water before use. Perhaps that could serve as

guidelines for stones and minerals not the allow a pet the chew on. Perhaps

someone reading this can locate that, if I can't locate mine to post.

My intention is not to discourage their use, but encourage wise use of

these beautiful entities. My son recently took his dog to the vet because when

he returned home from work the dog had become violently ill after consuming the

contents of a can of cocoa powder Sadie had knocked off the shelf and pried the

lid of off. The small amount of caffeine in the chocolate that was ingested

could have cause a loss of life. Dogs having a tendency to chew on and ingest

many unknowns seem to be a situation that should be taken seriously.

I have seen dog and cat collars with stones attached an that makes

perfect sense to me. For me each stone is an entity with specific message and

personality and treat them as 'friends', so also would feel uncomfortable with

allowing one to be treated as a 'thing' and I would have difficulty in allowing

one to be chewed on as a matter of principle. Hopefully this will offer some

helpfulness to this discussion.

you can wire wrap the stone and make it so it would fit her collar..or you can

make a cloth collar that you have sewn little pockets into that the stones or

crystals will fit into that way you can change them as you need to. and they

wont get lost...

i have Irish wolfhounds that carry about a crystal or two .. but i try never to

let them chew on them as it can cause damage to there teeth.

i was doing a crystal meditation once with crystal points around me...Megan my

female removed one of the crystals.. and it made a big shift in the meditation i

am convinced she knew what she was doing..

i also have a crystal in there water bowl as well as the cats.. they don't seem

to bother them at all.. when i first put them in it was as if they couldn' t get

enough of the water. i guess crystals are not just for us humans. " insert

smile.. "

but ohhhh how hard it is to share sometimes.. when i have that extra special

one... its always the one that seems to be the one i have to give away..but what

a blessing when new ones come into it..

have a grand day..

A specific kind of crystal or a regular quartz? Interesting concept.

I think I'll make the soft fabric collar with pouches on it for the

dogs if they are attracted to a crystal. I was going to watch to see

if they were just licking or actually trying to chew in which case I'd

have to remove it to protect their teeth and from breaking the stone

itself. Maybe I should try a petalite essence and put it in Petunia's

water? Hmmmm....

I bought some kits at Michael's to make Native American style (so they say

anyway) medicine bags. Figured I could tie them around the dogs' necks and put

a stone or two in them. I was wondering though if they have to actually come in

contact with skin or fur, though. And of course, this would be just around the

house and when supervised. Outside they'd probably get torn off and inside

unsupervised they might get mistaken for chewie treats and eaten!

I personally wouldn't attach a crystal to an animal as that is taking

away their choice. I prefer to leave them out and allow my dog to lie

near the ones she wants to be near.

Most animals are smart enough to know what crystals are good and which

are not good for them at any time as they are more sensitive to their

energies than we are.

i wouldn't attach a crystal to an animal that he didn't like... when my dog had

puppies one hurt its foot somehow and had a slight limp .. at first i used

Amethyst and the puppy wouldn't hold still at all so i changed to blue lacy

agate and he just laid on my lap soaking it up so no i wouldn't put a crystal or

stone on my dogs collar or on my dog without first making sure they agreed to

it.. if i noticed any sort of disease i would remove it. but you are very right

about just adding something to the dogs collar without first seeing how the

animal thinks. but if the animal shows a liking to it i would add it to there

collar instead of just letting them chew away...i would also take it off if i

noticed any negative change in the animal. as you said most animals are are

more sensitive to what they want and need.

I put together a little velvet bag of stones for my Weimaraner. I put it in

his bed when I left for the day. When I got home, the entire bag was in

the middle of the room. I didn't think much about it and put it in his bed

the next day, well, same thing happened. I *finally* realized he was doing

it on purpose and there was something in there that was affecting him

negatively. I was going to put one at a time in the bag and figure out

which one it was. And then all of a sudden, it hit me, he didn't like the

amber. I guess HE was telling me!! I removed the amber and the velvet bag

has stayed in his bed ever since.

I would hate to think what would have happened had it been around his neck.

I do put stones on my dog's collars, but I always test them first. This

really taught me a big lesson!!

Nope, they don't need to come in contact with the skin. I've used

healing layouts both on myself and my dogs, stones probably about 6

inches away from the body with great effect. Crystals sitting about

all over my house, we still get benefit from them.

My favorite stones for arthritic conditions are anything with a high copper

content....that is why the Native Americans and Tibetans highly reverred

Turquoise, Malachite and Azurite...as well as copper bracelets (Azuite is a

psuedomorph and over time will oxidize and turn into malachite...pretty wild

huh?) Copper helps with joint inflammations and moves stagnant conditions.

Anytime you have an itis at the end of the word it implies and inflamed

condition. Inflamed conditions have a " red " nature and do well with the

opposite spectrum which is blue. That is why Ghiridali Dinshah, the father of

color healing, recommends turquoise for all burns and body inflammations.

High copper stones actually have a chemical reaction when worn against the

skin to pull in thru the buffering salts of the skin and create copper salts

which in turn help produce your anti-oxidant enzymes...to fight inflammation.

You can easily get some turquoise and malachite beads....and put them on your

doggies collar and let them hang a bit so they have that reaction closer to the

skin.

So needless to say I second some of Tracy's suggestions below.
