One of my favorite books recommends RQ for many planting experiences...The Perelandra Garden by Michelle Small Wright....and also cause it is a iron/silica stone.....good for bringing in the birthing process....in the form of blossoms. Iron is also slightly acidic which is recommended for orchids......you may do the same with a garnet...red. I do not know where you live but orchids respond well to rainwater....as rainwater is slightly acidic.
